Looks like I'm never buying RAM again...

If you're really curious, basically the same engine has been available in the jeep wagoneer in the 2023 model year.

Why not go to a CDJR and test drive one to see how it feels.

The all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane engine is rated at 420 horsepower and 469 lb.-ft. of torque, while the High Output engine is rated at 540 horsepower and 521 lb.-ft. of torque. Capability includes a maximum towing capacity of 11,580 pounds, and a maximum payload of 2,300 pounds

Yep, go ahead and be pissed you can’t have your Hemi V8 with 395 HP and 400 torque!
The old 7.3L powerstroke only had 210hp and 425lb ft and I'd take one of those over these modern engines every day of the week and twice on Sunday

I have heard people say they will never buy a 6 cylinder turbo, also that they refuse to pay $60K for a truck. Good luck with that, because that likely means you're never getting a new truck again.
Everyone has their limit on what they’re willing to pay, monthly payments, years of payments, and interest rates that change their $60k truck into a $75k truck that sucks $10k in fuel per year. My wallet is more important than having the new shiny or something slightly bigger than Bob next door.

The cost of any truck nowadays is getting out of hand. I don’t feel the need to continue this payment ride.

Curious if Ford eventually discontinues the V8 5.0 or even the 6.2. I don't follow Chevy, but the 5.3 was never that good to begin with from what I've read.

People love to complain, this thread is a perfect example. You see a ton of guys on here bemoaning modern trucks and saying they'd rather drive X...but they don't. They are just rolling around in nostalgia but really wanting the modern conveniences and power as well.

I drove a 1978 truck from 2010-2012 while saving money for my then-new 2012 Ram. It's totally doable to drive an old truck if you really want to. Most guys just want to pretend they want to, though.

I had an '87 with the 318 and 4 speed manual. 4" lift, 35" tires, granny low. I drove that truck from the time I left the Army until my son was born. Only reason I got rid of it, child seat isn't friendly with a regular cab truck with a stick shift...

When you say crap like this, it's no longer an opinion but bashing others, maybe everybody has their own taste and do enjoy or prefer older technology, something about the experience of driving not just all the nanny crap and false creature comforts, maybe you're just too old to enjoy a vintage truck.

So, on a whim, I headed over to RAM's website to check out trucks (I like to "window shop" occasionally) - and I was sorely disappointed to discover that they're no longer going to produce any V8 trucks... I hate anything that is 6- or 4- cylinder and refuse to buy anything with those type of engines. So, needless to say, unless I go with something used, or they decide to start producing V8s again, I'll never be buying a RAM truck again. That sucks, because they HAD (IMHO) the best trucks on the market. The 2024 TRX is way overpriced as well - and it's going to be the last model with a V8.

That being said, what are your thoughts on this?
V8 all the way they last longer than 4/6 cylinders before needing repairs and you bet the sh@t out of the 4/6 cylinders getting up to speed or from one red to next.

The only Ram I've ever bought was a Dodge Ram. My '01 5.2L SLT Laramie WS (regular cab) 2WD long box leather power seats overhead console sits in my garage half the year. 44k miles on it now. Factory ordered, paid cash. No krazy GD electronic garbage. No beeping when I don't put on my belt. I did the intake manifold plate mod a couple years ago when I changed the water pump. They don't make Dodge Ram's any more. This one does what I need it to do, it will last me another 20 years.

You took umbrage at something obviously not aimed at you. You like old trucks, you drive an old truck, not what I was discussing.

I was talking about the guys who drive new trucks while constantly whining about new trucks and saying they would rather drive an old one. My message to them: Then do it. I did. You do it. It's totally doable. So if you *really* want to drive an old truck, do it and quit whining about your new one. They won't, they just want to complain and talk about how everything now sucks and everything back then was awesome...without really wanting to give up the now for the then.

Bumping up to a 2500 is no big deal. I use my truck as a truck and still drive it to church on Sunday. It does what ever I ask it to do.

I've went back and forth between 1/2 and 3/4 ton over the years. The Power Wagon is easily the best truck I've had *for what I want to do with it*. It's not ideal in some parking situations, but it more than makes up for it in other areas. It'd be tough to go back to a 1/2 ton now, if I need something smaller when I retire I'm going all the way down to a midsize.

I wonder when the Hurricane engine will hit the streets in the RAM? We need some real life experience commentary to help sort all of this out.

Have read Q3 2024. If that holds, July - September.

There is a smidge more to the story, though, as the SO has more horsepower, and a much better/fatter torque curve than the 5.7 Hemi. What are you going to compare the HO to? The Scat Pack 392 has never appeared in the 1500, and the Hellcat TRX is a whole 'nother animal.

I am a V-8 fan, but if the Hurricane proves reliable I'd have no hesitation buying one.
The original idea of a "VEE" engine was/is to keep the length down. Actually, an inline 8 cylinder makes much more torque than an equal sized v-8. The downside is harmonics in that long of a crankshaft. Also an in line engine of yore was much heavier than modern v-8 engines. The venerable !-6 300 Cubic inch Ford engine up until 2006 was a torque monster!

Old school thinking. “There’s no replacement for displacement”. Yes, there is. Adapt to the times or enjoy old used trucks ‍♂️
never. These wok climate change company's are destroying the USA. They will go broke with this electric EV curse of action.

Saw the title of this thread "never buy another Ram" Ram tough is BS I see all the talk about torque & horsepower & gas milage..... none of that is applicable if the transmission goes out @ 71000 miles. I honestly thought this would be the last truck I had to buy. Even when they rebuild it, I will never have the confidence I once did in this truck. Dealer loves it $$$$$$$
