I'm looking for (either) making my own bed slide or buying one. Trying to figure out if anyone has made one. If it's worth the effort, time, money. I want a low profile, so it doesn't take up much room in height.

Looks simple and easy! You actually gave me some help with my own design. I have a few pic's I'll add on here.I actually have a redneck bed slide.
It is from a wire pallet cover we got at my work, basically a square of 3/4 plywood with 1x2's on edge around the edge.
Fits right in between the wheel wells and slides easily on my bedliner. I have a tote that has spare fluids, tools, etc. for the truck, and I can put bags and luggage on it.
When it is slid forward, there is enough room between it and the tailgate for my Wife's power wheelchair components. I need to put pulls on the back, but for now I have a hook that I pull it back with, and I need to modify it slightly so the rear edge doesn't catch on the liner for the tailgate when I pull it back, but I am a procrastinator superb....lol.
Pictures soon to follow. Please, don't laugh (or do). It doesn't look like much, but it works, and was already made.
Slid back on the tailgate:

Slid forward with my tote with gas cans behind it. If we are travelling, I put the tote with tools and fluids in it, along with our bags, and slide it forward. Enough room behind for the Wife's disassembled power wheelchair.
