I’m pretty sure a longer oil filter would work for the 5.7, has anyone found a better choice with more filter media. Pretty bad when a 4 cyl has more than double the media. I am using a Wix 57060xp

XG10575 is the same diameter, but longer filter than the X10060. I use the Fram XG2 on my '15. It is listed for the Challengers that use the 5.7. Larger diameter filter. Some seem to not have room for it on their Rams, though.

Yep like Ed says, if you don't have extra diameter clearance go with Fram XG10575 or Royal Purple 20-500.
Same diameter as the little factory puck, but longer.
Wix is a coarse filter, too coarse for me.

It’s the original block darton sleeved.going on third build. Wanted a little more then the F1c with a dedicated belt so I’m going with a newer version the F1A94.The rebuilding was lengthened by my stupid idea to do a supervettes widebody kit.The fitting and painting took 2 years and 2 shops.

Agree the OE filter size is laughable, or perhaps infuriating.

Lots of options discussed in various threads, but none work for 5th gen 4x4 that I’ve found. Too tight due to steering rack/diff.

Used the RP 20-500 when I briefly ran a relocation kit, but no good options now.

The size of an engine oil filter does not always corollate with its operating efficiency.

Oil filters must filter at a specific oil pressure and operate at a specific higher oil pressure, enable a certain oil flow volume, be able to filter particles of a certain small size (or larger), hold a certain amount of engine debris in suspension, and have a quality bypass valve to permit oil to bypass the filter if it becomes clogged.

Simply putting on a larger filter does not mean you will improve any of the characteristics needed above. You may end up with a filter that has worse operating characteristics that the OEM specified filter.

Vehicle manufacturer engineers determine a variety of oil filter needs for a specific engine, and design (or specify) an oil filter that will operate under a variety of conditions (such as sub zero start temperatures, operating in extreme heat, filtering capacity, and characteristics listed above etc.).

Keep in mind that vehicle manufacturers specify an oil filter and also warranty the engine (and provide extended service plans). They would not specify a filter that was not of high quality and performance, size notwithstanding.

I have always believed that using an OEM filter (any type) is sufficient unless there are extenuating circumstances.

I know what you’re talking about.All I know is less media area usually reduces flow and in a worse case scenario who wants to test the bypass valve.It is tuned for 7 lbs.65886977234__8A745F6D-B721-4A07-8DFB-E5A38C134CD2.jpegIMG_1241.jpegIMG_0101.jpeg

I've used Royal Purple 20-820 filters in the past. Made more of a mess when I replaced it but it fits in there. I eventually went back to OEM filters since I'm changing oil at 5k miles now.

For anyone who doesn't want to sift through the 120+page oil filter thread, this summarized my findings from reading that wrt RP and 5th gens:

Switched to Redline 5w30

I read some of the thread and it looks like RP 20-820 should be okay, thanks for the heads up on the 10-48. I need to read that thread again. Main takeaway from that plus a few YT discussions I watched a couple years ago where they dissected and compared common brands was RP was generally...

I rarely go past 3k mainly for the longevity of the D1sc blowers 6 oz oil change.But i do think about in between filter changes like I did on the break in.

Thanks and I’ve been blending 4-5-30 and 3-5-20 amsoil sig.until the 5-20s gone. I still use archoil even though I don’t have a diesel anymore.
