Towing

I recently traded a 14 with the 3.21 gears. I used it to tow our 6400lbs. travel trailer. With a WD hitch and anti-sway bar, you should have no issues other than a little sag in the rear. The truck should handle it just fine. Tow capacity on mine was just under 7900lbs.

    6.4 vs 6.7

I hand calculated it one time and it was pretty darn close (within 1 mpg). I've never done it by hand again. My highway commute to work is pretty flat and a mixture of 55mph and 65mph speed limits.

    6.4 vs 6.7

I get over 22 MPG on my 70 mile highway daily commute with my CTD. My mixed MPGs are around 18. That matches what my 2014 1500 Sport (8speed and 3.21 gears) got. I've owned two HEMIs and gassers in other brands (GM and Ford). I would consider the additional cost of fuel per gallon. Outside of...

    Picked up my '15 2500

    Great looking truck! Congrats!

    2500 or 3500?

I just went through this (very) recently. Was upgrading from my 1500 to tow our camper. I was sold on a new 2500 Cummins. We will likely upgrade to a fifth wheel in a few years. When I started looking at fifth wheel tongue weights I was shocked at how the 2500 faired against them. Almost all of...

What Do You Tow With Your 4th Gen?

Correct sir... That was an attempt at removing more sag. It was only like that for a 25 mile trip. I did not break or shatter a bar but did experience an issue while turning. :( School of hard knocks.

What Do You Tow With Your 4th Gen?

Yes, that is with the WDH. I ended up UPGRADING the truck instead of just upgrading the truck (see sig). :)

Thinking About Getting A Travel Trailer But I Know Nothing About Towing

So true... I am finding myself in the cycle now. Last summer we bought a TT that "exercised" our 1500 Sport quite heavily. The truck actually did fine around here (Ohio) but my wife wants to start with some cross country trips this summer. Last weekend I traded the 1500 in on a new 3500 diesel...

Diesel noob has a question about fuel...

I just bought my first diesel truck a week ago. I went to my local Marathon station tonight to refuel and was confused on whether to use "diesel" or "premium diesel". I ended up going with the premium ($.06 more per gallon) but would like to know exactly what the difference is and which I should...

    Upgraded from 1500 to 3500

Nope, rears are leafs. I was originally planning on getting a 2500 CTD but the payload would not have been enough for me so 1-ton it is.

3/4 loses almost 1k payload for diesel 1ton loses nothing?

The 2500 payload limitations are exactly why I ended up with a 3500. Most 5th wheel campers (pin weight) that we'd likely upgrade to in the future put us over the 2500 payload max. I was really surprised.

    Upgraded from 1500 to 3500

Good question... It certainly does not ride as nicely as my 1500 did. If the road is smooth, the 3500 rides great! If the road is really rough, the truck let's you know that it is an HD truck. I expected it to ride poorly in comparison, and it does. With that being said, it does ride much better...

    Upgraded from 1500 to 3500

Thanks guys! I'm loving it so far. I was/am shocked at how much bigger it feels than either of my 1500s.

    Upgraded from 1500 to 3500

The only pics I have so far are from the dealership website. I had the Line-X sprayed in today and ordered the Backflip F1 and Bak Box tonight. This thing should yank our 7000lb camper around without even flinching. :) [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]

    Upgraded from 1500 to 3500

This past weekend I traded my 1500 Sport in on a new 3500 Laramie, crew cab, Cummins, 6speed auto, 4x4. This is my first HD truck and diesel. It's a beast!

What Do You Tow With Your 4th Gen?

I'm really not sure... There are just so many people that swear by the airbags, I can't believe they are all wrong. Seems to me like the way to go.

What Do You Tow With Your 4th Gen?

2015 Crossroads Rezerve... 28' box, 6400lbs dry. I will be installing airbags this year to assist with the sag seen in these pics. [/IMG] [/IMG]

3.21 gear ratio - anyone actually towing with it?

No problem. I'm glad to help put your mind at ease a little. Just make sure you have your WDH set up properly. I am not sure what the tongue weight of your trailer is, mine is about 800lbs. My WDH does a pretty good job at keeping the sag to a minimum but I am adding air bags this year to assist...

3.21 gear ratio - anyone actually towing with it?

Good thread! I wanted to chime in here with my experiences. My truck is a 2014 Crew cab, 4x4, HEMI, Sport with the 3.21 gears. I got these gears for gas mileage as my daily commute is quite lengthy. The truck gets great highway mileage (beside the point). I towed our camper (28' box length...

2014 1500 Big Horn 3.21 Diff Towing Capacity?

I have the 3.21's and the 8 speed. I tow a 28ft (31ft bumper to hitch) travel trailer with a dry weight of 6400lbs. Honestly, once I got my WD hitch dialed in correctly the truck handles it like a dream. It is very capable and comfortable with this load. No complaints at all.
