I looked up my truck build sheet and since I have the tow package it said that my truck as the trans and oil cooler but I am still getting those high temps. Not sure if that will help.
I think it’s ridiculous that they say our trucks can pull way more than 5k but we see temps 270+. I even looked at my build sheet and since I have the tow package that it has a oil cooler which I have a hard time believing that with those temps.
I am thinking it runs so hot because the coolant...
My oil temp hit 270 this weekend when I was pulling my 5000lb enclosed trailer up a steep hill. Coolant was 220 and trans was 190. I run full synthetic oil but still crazy how hot it gets. Once I got over the hill it went down to 230-240. I was doing 70 mph over the hill and the truck has no...
Don’t remove the clutch fan and use the stock V8 Efan if you are towing and going up big hills/mountains. My truck overheated going from Salt Lake to Boise pulling my empty 8.5x16’ enclosed trailer last summer.
If you need to tow then just put the clutch fan back on and your good to go. Been...
So you are saying the HF tune decreased your mpg? I feel the same way with my custom Hf 92 tune. I am returning my truck back to stock on this next trip towing to see if I can get a little better mpg. Will definitely put the tune back on for daily driving though. Truck drives so much better when...
I have ran a lot of different tests with and without the clutch fan and I average around ~1 mpg better with it off. In town and highway without a load I always have it off. If I tow I put it back on since the little efan isn’t enough to keep it from over heating. Very easy to put on and off though.
Lol so here are the mods I have that helped mpg.
Custom HF 91
Magnaflow muffler
K&n intake
Clutch fan removed *helped the most
Radiator shutters removed
2” level with 34” and 3.92
Town - 15
Town/highway to work (40-55mph) - 17
Highway 70-80 - lucky if I can get 17
Mpg went down big time going from the stock passenger tires to the LT tires
We remove the stock clutch fan and only use the efan so we need the extra air flow at slower speeds to keep the truck cool and also run 180 thermostats so yea trying to keep the truck cooler
Gotcha. Thanks for the heads up. I have his latest tune so it probably already has it in the tune I am betting but I just remove all but the top and bottom shutters and call it a day.
Curious to see what the 2019 use for a efan since they got rid of the clutch fan. Hopefully I can use that fan on my truck and then won’t have to worry about not enough air flow while towing.
I don’t see much difference with removing the shutters while towing even though I have mine removed also but the clutch fan is needed. I was seeing temps for coolant around 250 when I didn’t have the clutch fan on (shutters removed and efan on at 190) and the stock efan couldn’t keep up.
I do...
I didn’t get them when I installed mine and I don’t have any vibration. I also read a lot of reviews with no one having issues without the brackets either.
With vehicles now days it’s going to be the luck of the draw if you get a good one or not. You could baby the shit out of the truck and it could last 10 years with zero issues or you could get one and baby it and have nothing but problems.
I’m not saying abuse the truck when new but yea like...
