My new Ram is a **** lol

the 5.7 is a dog compared to the 3.5 ecoboost. The ecoboost and 10 speed transmission are beasts. that said the ram is a much nicer truck than the F150. And it sounds better.

    My 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Runs great until it don't , Help !!!

i have no evidence at all - but I'll still bet its the cam/lifters. sounds exactly like my truck when those started to go.

    V6 or V8?

I recently got out of a 2011 Ram with the V8 and into a '22 with a V6. There are times I would like the 8cylinder for sure, but day to day I don't notice. What I love about the V6 is that I don't have to worry about the cam issue. My 2011 grenaded after being babied with 3k mile oil changes and...

    My 5.7 is trashed

my truck never ticked - it was smooth as could be until the lifter froze and started squealing. i agree about other brands having their problems for sure. The one thing about these Hemis though is they seem to be quite a bit more expensive (reman, new, or junkyard) than a chevy, ford, or...

    My 5.7 is trashed

my 2011 hemi cam/lifters went at 90k miles recently. Luckily the truck was in excellent shape otherwise so I was able to trade it in for a good value. I ended up going with a new ram with the pentastar. It's nice to not have the anxiety of the hemi now at least.

another cam bites the dust - I think

for what it's worth - I have 2 pieces of new information. I took my new truck into the dealership to have a bedliner sprayed in. I asked about the old truck and it did indeed have a bad motor. cams/lifters I received my report from blackstone labs from the last Oil change I did which was 3k...

another cam bites the dust - I think

in the end - I agree with you. I thought about what was to come. I was already planning to have the 100k maintenance done at the dealership and also planning on refreshing the suspension at some point within the next year or so. It was going to need tires in the winter, a set of brakes soon...

another cam bites the dust - I think

anot I wasn't disconnecting the battery until I had the plugs out the 3rd time. I've since disconnected the battery and swapped coils again and it's no longer improving. It's just getting worse. The only way to be sure now is to pull the valve covers, and I'll have someone else do that. I've...

another cam bites the dust - I think

i've got the battery unplugged. We'll see what it sounds like in a little bit. It was squeaking like crazy earlier when I was driving it though. its strange though - everytime I pull the plugs and put a different coil on it runs fantastic, but then gets rough and worse and worse.

another cam bites the dust - I think

I think its starting to fail. its ticking and making a ton of noise now. it was running great a day ago, and didn't have metal in the oil 15,000 miles ago. I unplugged the battery and will see if anything change with that. i was offered 11 grand as a trade in. Not to fix it.

it definitely went from 7 to 1 and back to 7. 100% sure. I've been tracking all this.

another cam bites the dust - I think

here is the whole story I woke up this morning. Started up fine, drove .5 miles and it threw a code and started running rough. Cylinder 7 misfire and P0307. Also, it kinda smelled like burning plastic. I decided to swap the coil and plugs on cylinder 7 with new ones for the hell of it. I...

so for what its worth the truck is back to running rough and is now throwing a P1417 code. Stuck lifter. i think its toast

another cam bites the dust - I think

***ANOTHER UPDATE*** sorry for all the detail here, but hopefully it helps someone else I drove to the autoparts store. its probably 2 miles away. the code came back on. Shudder came back. Additionally, I heard a tick that wasn't there before. Not sure if that had something to do with cylinder...

another cam bites the dust - I think

***UPDATE*** I just swapped coil/plugs from cylinder 7 to cylinder 1. I cleared the codes. The first thing I noticed is that the engine light would come on while accelerating and then go off in MDS. Thoughts on that? More importantly, the misfire code did move from cylinder 7 to cylinder 1...

thanks for the help. I'll drive it a little more and have the blackstone test done again. I had it done maybe 15k miles ago and it was all good.

no more than it always has I'll have to call some shops. I don't know if I want to be purchasing all the parts and walking them into a shop. seems like a hassle.

another cam bites the dust - I think

it wasn't upon startup, so it wasn't cold necessarily. I probably drove 5 minutes, and then I was pulling onto the highway and the shudder happened and the light came on. i did notice last week that it was a little hard starting a couple of times.
