Just installed a avic 5000 Pioneer. I have the factory back up camera with the rear view mirror screen. I am looking for a way to splice into the rear view mirror camera to get the back up screen on the head unit. Any ideas ?

Thanks

depending on what wiring harness you bought (Axxess, Metra). I have the Axxess nav harness and it has audio and video feeds coming off of the part that connects to the factory wiring. I haven't checked to see if they line up to where the feeds are for the back up cameras for the 5.0 radio. You might be able to tap into the video feed wires in the rear view mirror and run them down into the factory radio harness.

Got it figured out. I had factory back up camera screen in rear view mirror and wanted it to display on both the mirror and aftermarket stereo screen. Installed a Pioneer Avic 5000.

On the passenger side you need to pop off the side dash panel . Right inside the panel you will find the mirror harness.

I spliced into the harness with a RCA cable

Center pin of RCA to Green Wire with brown stripe

Shield or outer band of RCA plug to green wire with orange stripe.

This is on a 2014 Express that had the entry level stereo.

Now when in reverse both screens display. Much easier to see trailer hitch on the large screen.

Thanks for the update and info. I'll have to try this once I get my alpine in.

Can I just cut the end off of an RCA cable I have or does this require a special rca wiring adapter?

Thanks

You can cut the end off of one. That's what I did. Then use a style of connection that doesn't require cutting the factory wiring to splice into (can't think of the name of it) and use the foil shield for one of the connections and the copper center wire for the other

I stopped by Radio Shack on the way home and bought a 6 ft audio male rca (phono) to tinned stripped ends with two wires on the end. One of the wires on the end is centered and the other looks like its in the outside of the inner wire jacket. Similar to the picture. Do you think this cable will work?

It should work. The outer one will go to the green/orange wire (I believe is the ground) and the center wire will go to the green/brown wire (video feed)

We sell a harness for going from the factory backup cam in the mirror to the 8.4 radio swaps, but I could make it with a RCA plug to connect to your aftermarket radio if you want. Let me know

Does this Harness allow the backup camera to show on both the mirror and the head unit or just the head unit?

Thanks

Do I have to take the headliner down to run the new harness or does it plug in on the passenger side access panel?

I plan on installing everything in the morning. If the wires I have don't work out, I will most definitely give you a holler.

Thanks for all the info.

Good stuff. I have a side question...how about for a aftermarket radio and after market reverse camera to turn on?

I could always splice it into the reverse light, so when my truck is in reverse, it powers the camera.
