Hey guys, haven't posted in a while. I used to get 21-23 MPG's with my old commute, 80% was highway. I moved a mile away from my job, which is AWESOME, and I highly recommend everyone moving closer to your job if you can.

Now I rarely go over 50mph, never floor it, I drive literally 1,000 miles less a month also. The only thing that's ALWAYS ON is Max A/C, quite toasty here lol. But still, should it be that low my MPG's? I keep my tires at 40psi also and the truck is all stock 2017 V6. I have been using my auto start quite often, usually around 3 times a day to let it idle for 10 minutes to get cold, I'm thinking that's what is killing the gas?

Ya - the idling for a period of time will bring down your MPGs. I've always thought these trucks get poor gas mileage, but then again - it's a truck lol.

If you are running the truck for 20 minutes to drive only a few miles, then yes your average mileage is going to be terrible.

Agree, that's 30 minutes of idling. Kills your mpg. That being said, it is nice to get into a comfortable truck.

I remote start my truck about 10-15 minutes before I leave my house and work. Yeah Az heat sucks! Even with that much idle time my MPGs are over 15 for my daily commute. And I am turning a tire slightly larger than 35" with 3.21 gears and the 5.7.

Has to be your really short commute that is killing it.

Getting into a hot truck when its 110 degrees out sucks more than poor fuel mileage IMO.

Yep, you’re about normal. I work for myself out of my house so my sometimes daily commute is to the local Wawa to get a coffee about 2 miles away. I get roughly 14.1 with 3.92s and a little bit larger than stock tires.

Ok, thanks guys.

I swear though, going from 26 miles away to 1.2 miles away was life changing! I sleep so much more, save the miles also. Highly recommend it to anyone if possible.

Well when my Ram bit the dust I had 194,000 miles on a 2011 so that tells you how I drove lol. By the way it was totaled in 2017.

Yeah I got the oil changed at the dealer at 5,000 miles, the truck has 7,400 miles now, air filter is clean also, still stock. I guess I just let her idle too much, with the remote starts etc.

That’ll do it and fast too. Best way to calculate your fuel mileage is hand calculated

Get an Ecodiesel :)

No, I'm going to pay this off and keep it till the Arizona sun melts it to the ground. I still love how comfortable this truck is, even my coworkers have said so. It's like driving a couch!

He wouldn't do any better fuel economy wise idling a diesel either. If he was driving a bunch of highway miles than yes it would net him better fuel economy considering I get about 20-22mpg in the city with my EcoD

Short commutes are harder on a vehicle than long drives. No chance to get up to speed, no chance for all the fluids to get up to temp.

As the others have said, idling for such a long period is what's killing your mileage. If I let mine idle I can sit in it and watch the average MPG drop point by point.

My commute is 16 miles if I go through town or 21 miles if I go back roads out through the country. In town doing 30-45 I'm averaging 16MPG, on the country route doing 50-65 I'm averaging 17MPG.

I have and Outdoorsman with 4WD and 40K miles. I got 21.3 mpg on my first 3250 miles of mixed driving, empty rig w/ tonneau bed cover. Just finished 1500 miles to CA and back to WA getting 17 mpg towing my 4000 lb boat with two passengers and equipment. The drive was all in tow/haul and the truck did not skip a beat on the hills at 70+ mph.

So that's got to be either an EcoDiesel or V6?
