Can anyone shed some light on exactly what the differences are between the 1500 and 2500 suspension. Logic tell me a better shock and spring but what else?

Main thing is the 2500 is a solid axle, or was last I checked.

Coil/ spring mounts, frame, cross member placement, shocks ad associated mounts, the list goes on and on :)

I don't know if I'd say "better" shocks and springs.... just different. 2500 truck is a whole other beast than a 1500. The 2500 is just built to withstand larger loads so everything is stiffer. It holds the weight great but you pay for it in the form of a bouncy ride. A 1500 rides like a luxury car but the ass end sags like crazy when you get north of about 1000#. My 2500 Hemi can take 2000# of gravel in the bed and barely squat. It just depends on what you want/need it to do.

ah this is interesting!

I am the new owner of a 2007 Dodge Ram Mega Cab, 5.7H 1500. I am told that this Mega cab model is built on the 2500 frame. It has 305 tires and probably a 2 inch body lift, I think. It has 51K original miles and is in cherry shape.

When riding down the freeway, it tends to be a little bouncy in the front end and I was wondering if it isn't damped enough. It isn't horrible, but is noticeable.

Are there any expert shops in the Seattle area that would be able to look over my truck and tell me what has been done, and maybe what needs to be done?

I bought it to pull a 3500 pound 14 foot v nose race trailer (motorcycle road racing), and I expect that it will not have any problems with that, but I haven't tried it yet.

Look into leveling the truck out, there are leveling kits out there that will change the ride and make it ride correctly and smooth like a Caddy. Look into Carli or Thuren Fab, both make progressive rate springs that will solve your issue.
and yes the Mega cab 1500's are built on the 2500 platform with a different spring rate up front for the Hemi

Also with a leveling kit you can also clear 33's even 35's without the body lift.... note, I'm not a fan of bodylifts...

The 1500 MegaCab was only introduction a couple of years and it was built on a 2500 frame, using solid axles. Wish I could remember why it wasn't a "2500"..............

Because it has to do with the 5.7L and trans combo, I think the 2500's only got the bigger motors and trans pushing them into the 3/4 rating. I'm guessing here so don't take this as fact.

Your guess is as good as mine. I actually bought one (1500 MegaCab) but took it back the next day when I re-read the manual and specs only to discover the tow rating was less then the "regular" 1500 quadcab...

Dealer did right by me, that's how I ended up with my first CTD!

EDIT: so the more I think about it, it had to be the suspension (spring rates). It was built on a 2500 frame and used 2500 running gear but was rated to tow less than some 1500's. Probably had to do with Dodge trying to get a better ride quality AND keep the GVWR under 8500 lbs.
