2014 1500 Adding the Integrated brake Controller

Hello all,

New member here from Pittsburgh....

Just picked up a 2014 Ram 1500 with the Hemi 5.7 and the 8 speed tranny.

It's an express, so I had to add the receiver, which I strong armed the dealer to throw it in after the deal.

I also need to add a brake controller.

There is much info out there for adding the factory controller, but most of that is for the 2013's.

Has anyone over here done the mod to a 2014?

If you find that the factory brake controller will work for you, I am selling one for $170 shipped. Once you get it you have to have the dealership flash the truck for it to show up on your dash. I have the "slate grey" bezel for it also included. I had a 2012 1500 that I installed it in and took one trip with it and realized that I needed a 2500 for my trailer. I took it back out and traded my 11 month old truck for the white 2013 2500 truck you see in my signature banner below. The brake controller is unscathed and looks like it just came out of the box. I hope it works for you. I absolutely love it, and not having a knee knocker in a daily driver is worth not having the additional features of a Prodigy or Tekonsha IMO.

The OEM Mopar brake controller interfaces with the EVIC, so will need to be flashed by dealer.

Birddog - got the pics, but I need the newer style, as seen in my attachment here.

I am still fairly certain it will work, and I do know about the flashing, it's even listed as an option in the factory catalog for my model.

I just want some feel good reassurance from someone who has done it.

The good thing about flashing the OEM unit is all the trailer brake information is on your dash as you drive. Much easier to keep your eyes on the road.

Stopped at the dealer, they confirmed it is an option for the 2014 Express, and can be done. I setup an appt Monday. $365 installed, includes the flashing.

I could have sold you mine and it would have come out cheaper for ya. Mine is virtually new at $170 shipped and I think it's less than $100 to flash it. That's almost $100 in your pocket.

Birddog - it was the wrong year part number. Yours was the older style that mounts above the emer brake lever. I need the one that mounts in the center dash.

Hello all, new member here. I would appreciate any help concerning the factory integrated brake controller. I have the controller on order thru O'reillys and before it arrives I was wondering if anyone with a 2014 Ram 1500 (don't figure the fact its an Express matters) could take a picture of the 2 - 4 pin connectors under the dash and left of the steering wheel supposedly the way I understand it anyways. I don't have a clue what they look like and any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I get it installed before I receive any replies or pics I will update after the fact and include pics for future reference for anyone else looking for this information. Dealers about worthless aside of them wanting me to drive 70 to 80 miles in any direction for them to look just to point them out.

I had a 2012 1500 that I installed mine in so it's different than yours. My new truck already came with one installed so I'm not much help. If no one replies, my best guess is for you to do a Google search and maybe another forum had the thread with pics or maybe there's a YouTube video that will pop up and show you the entire install. That's where I learn to do lots of stuff.
