You can pretty much do either, or sell the stockers and tires for new rims, since your already getting tires.

I think he's looking for moral support on one option over the other

With those beefy tires you need a new wheel to match, something that looks more offroad.

They wouldn't do new wheels without a 4 inch lift. Being done Tuesday, May just bite bullet and do new wheels and 6 inch lift but my wife may kill me

What was their reason? Lots of people have done new wheels with 33-35" tires on a level. Just look at the wheel offset.

The wider wheel would rub they said
Eh idk it would depend on the offset of the wheel. I would find some wheels you like and start doing some research here to see if others have had any issues. It sounds like they want to sell a lift kit by telling you that.

I would say they dont really know what they are talking about.
Lots of guys with level kits running 35s and wider wheels just haft to watch the offset like was said.

Or run spacers to get around the rub.

I'm considering 35s because of the look, but also considering 305/55 because of the weight increase running a 35" tire and potential loss of mpg. that being said, the weight difference of the 305 vs a 35" tire is only 5 lbs per corner. The height difference from the Falken 305 to a 35" is approximately 1.5". And to compare apples, the section width on the 305 is 12.3, and the 35" is 12.5.

Is it enough to care? I'm not really sure. Maybe it comes down to price per tire, or looks.

the price difference from google search is about $65 more expensive on the 35x12.5.

I’m in the same boat. I did a level with 20 inch weels and 33” tires on my last ram. Bought a 2014 sport last month and want to do 20” wheel with 35s this time

Why is the choice 35s with stock or 33s with a new wheel? Price?

Either way my vote is to stay in the 33-34" tall tire sizes. On my leveled 2006 3rd gen I ran both a 35 and a 33 tire size combo, in the end most people couldn't tell much difference in size from the 35's to the 33's and the truck got much improved MPG and responsiveness from the smaller tire. If you don't have the 3.92 gears in the truck, do a lot of city driving, or tow heavy I wouldn't even consider going with 35's. I feel the 275/65R20 or 295/60R20 sizes just offer the best performance/looks blaance on leveled 4th gens, my humble option however.
