I used MD Auto & Marine rubber weathershield, which worked great. The stuff is available at home supply stores, or ACE hardware as well.

I had a nice “chat” with the Service Manager at my Dealership……..Lo, and behold, the bill was cut in half. I decided to let them do the repair, not because my husband wouldn’t do as good a job, (in all honesty, I‘m sure he would have been more diligent about it) but because any further leaks from either the CHMSL or the rear slider will be totally the Dealership’s responsibility…….

RAM knows about the leak problems as I just received a Warranty Extension letter from them last week indicating they are extending the warranty of the third brake light to ten years for the 2019-2021 model years ... My truck is a 2020 ... I guess with all the issues with previous model years they decided to do something ... My 2013 third brake light leaked and I caught it early as the bulbs blew which is when I noticed the moisture inside ... Dried it all up and put some window stripping around it as a seal and it never leaked after that ...

Very Interesting. Is there any type of 'reference' number or code on the letter regarding the 3rd brake light warranty extension? I wonder if it is for Canada only...or also the USA?? Also wonder if it includes any water 'damage' to the head liner or other possible affected components?

Hard to believe these threads, people this is the easiest fix in the world as simple as eating some pie. It is really bad if you paid 250 plus bucks for the dealer to put another tired mopar gasket. This stuff is ten bucks, a 5 year old could put it on. Why in the world would you think another mopar gasket would "fix" this issue, the mopar gaskets are coated smooth and kink, it's just gonna leak again until you do what many of us here have already done, spend ten bucks and read the thread ion the install, it takes 5 minutes. Look at the kink in the mopar gasket, the gasket is faulty nothing else is wrong with the third brake light. The proper gasket has 5 channels anyone which could stop a leak, it is very high quality and cheap.

I had the leak on a 2016. I read the forums that this Detroit Muscle had a real nice gasket so I bought one. It is really nice. I scraped the old gasket off and put the new one on only to discover that when I bolted it up, the housing was warped so bad that it could never be tightened enough to seal. I didn't want to do a hack job with silicone, so I ordered a new Mopar housing. While I was explaining my dilemma on this forum, someone told me that the OEM bulbs needed to be changed over to LED to prevent the overheating of the housing. Put the new lens with gasket and LED bulbs, I have solved my problem since 2019ish. Some other makes/models have four screws to hold the housing to the vehicle. Those engineers may have added the two extra screws to eliminate the warping of the housing.
All 5th gen 1500s received a four screw assembly. The early 4th gen version only had two attaching screws, but testing found that any overtightening produced an uneven pressure against the gasket in the middle section.

The gasket material has been changed three times from the original AA to the AG version.

The latest version for 5th gens (68298380AG) has an improved high density, closed foam gasket with increased thickness, and the addition of a second hood gasket over the top of the lamp assembly (see pics).

I went with an after-market solution. The gasket encompasses both the light housing and then continuously around the mounting hardware. Might be worth a look for some.

The only thing at the top of the letter is the model of my truck along with the VIN # ... But I did find this that would pertain to the U.S. on 2019-2021 DT models ...
