Hi all. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 ecodiesel with 130xxx miles and the engine blew up on me. Just wondering if anyone knows if I can swap a 2020 ecodiesel engine into the truck to get the upgraded engine. Thanks

I found a wrecked 2020 that I can pull the engine out of for $7,500 and was just wondering if I could fit it into my truck. 2020 engine only had 3,000 miles on when the truck was wrecked.

I can't say for absolutely certain but probably not. The 2020 is the next generation, with many upgrades. Redesigned heads, stronger lighter block, different egr system etc... You might be able to make it work, but the headaches and costs probably aren't worth it.

It is a very good possibility, that every connector & most of the pins inside of those connections have been changed in 1 or more ways.

I think Crash, had made some comments on this very subject

thanks for the replies. Just wondering what the best option is. The truck can sit for a while until I get it fixed because I have a Cummins to drive. Does anyone know if a full rebuild will fix the reliability issues these trucks had?

Next month, my EcoDiesel will be 7 years old.
When i bought it, i had been planning on buying a new Ram ecodiesel at this time. Mostly because i usually drive 150,000 miles more or less in 7 years.

I have had medical issues since February 2020, i have not put many miles on the truck. So i am not ready for another purchase.

Now the buttheads up in Auburn Hills have decided to drop the Ecodiesel from the line up.

It is beginning to look more like a replacement engine will be in my future, unless the truck is damaged, making it unsuitable to keep.

Then i think a HYBRID or a good used 2022 ecodiesel will be my options

Just putting this out there. Does anyone know of a shop that rebuilds these ecodiesels around KY.
