Get the 8spd.....this 6spd sucks. Its my biggest gripe on the truck. With the right gearing the 6.4 could be a beast. But I think its pretty lame unless you keep the rpms high. The 8spd would be great.

Not sure what the problem is with the 6 speed? I have 2018 with 6.4 and carry a 2500 lb truck camper and have no issues at all.

Why do you need a 2500HD? The RAM 1500 with the diesel gets great fuel mileage and can tow a ton. But back to the topic, you might wanna wait and get a 2020, one reason is if you ever sell it it is newer and your residual will be higher. However Employee pricing is what swayed my decision for the 2019 Limited w/Cummings now.

I never put much value in me upper trim levels. A few things I would definitely recommend in the higher trim level, most come with the tow stuff, keyless entry , if you sweat get the air-conditioned seat that's awesome, heated wheel and seats are nice depending on climate. console is nice. Not necessary. Auto bright headlights I like. Stereos do rock pretty well. How much time in the truck are you spending? I'm 80-90 miles a day.

Can’t compare the 2 on performance, I traded my 2017 for a 2019... both 6.4’s. Same equipment. NO COMPARISON! 2019 better performance, better gas mileage, better ride, quieter cab. Go with the 2019! Not sure why there is a Fird guy in here trying to sell that junk. Test drove a Ford F-250, and a Chevy 2500.... Ford underperforms even the Chevy, and cost more. Ram is winning awards for the new Ram, stick with the best...

Carrying a 2500# camper is hauling about 20% of the trucks rating. The problems come up when you pull towards the upper limits. The gap between first and second is ridiculous and the shifting is terrible. The shifting can be overridden by doing it manually. Nothing to do about the 1-2 gap. The ratios for the 66rfe tranny are borrowed from the 68rfe that is paired with the diesel. The lugging isn't an issue with the diesel since they generate all their power at the low end.

I just recently traded a 15 6.7 2500 with 6 speed and 3:42's. Towing and fuel economy was fine. Daily driving was slow, lumbering and clunky over shifting but overall ok. My new 19 is a 6.7 6 speed with 3:73's and drives fantastic. Accelerates more like a 1/2 ton pulls hard and shifts MUCH smoother. Fuel economy is a tad less due to heavier 285/20 vs. 275/70. 3:73's seem to clean up a lot of the 6 speeds clunkyness. I'm happy until my recall notices surpass the double handful my 15 had.

I'd shop around on that price. Lots of dealers you can get a 2019 Bighorn for $42K, and Tradesmen for under $40k.

Have you driven both back to back? I’ve been looking at a lot of trucks lately.

I drove a low optioned Big Horn at a not so local dealer and loved it. The interior is much improved over the 4th gen trucks. The 8 speed was awesome and really wakes the big Hemi up.

My local dealer has a nicely optioned 2018 Laramie 3500 with the 6.4 and it is heavily discounted. I drove it and honestly, it wasn’t bad at all. The trans was way better than any 4 speed, but no where near as nice as the 8 speed.

The biggest take away for me was comparing interiors and transmission. The 2019 Bighorn was as nice, if not a touch nicer, than the 2018 Laramie. That along with the much nicer transmission makes the 2019 worth it to me.

The biggest problem is finding a nicely optioned gas truck. They all seem to be diesel.

My main criteria would be if I plan to tow heavy. As a daily driver and towing up to 7-8K, the 6spd tranny is fine. The problems only show when you start to get to the upper limits of the truck. And it's not as though it's terrible. I'm probably doing about as bad as possible - 3.73 gears, 11,500# 5th wheel, out west in the hills and it's not as though I'm holding up traffic. It just could be a whole lot better. I'm sure the 8spd is beautiful.

I could never justify the additional cost of a diesel. All I tow 99% of the time is my boat....which doesn't tax my 2500 at all.
