Confirmed... This process is what I used to replace my ball joints as well on my Dodge Ram 2500 (Cummins).

But I will inform that if heat is used use it in carefully. I had a ball joint hang up and refuse to move. So we heated the joint and beat on it with BFH. Finally the joint exploded launch the ball stud into the floor and rebounding hit my buddy in the thigh. No he was hurt bad other than the surpirse of being smacked with a 2 pound chunk of steel.

^^^ What Mike said... What happens is the BJ is sealed, and as the grease/moisture inside of it heats up, it creates a lot of pressure internally.. Then.. POW!

Thanks for the proceedure. I`ve both sides to do this week on my 2500. I`ve never done one before so the education can`t hurt.

can you tell me if there is an axle seal that maybe should be replaced while the axle is out?

Now if I could only find one on how to rebuild or repair the automatic transmission in it that has no foreward gears I would be jam up.

Mine came with snap rings. Did you use yours at all?

Heat is applied only to the ear, not the ball joint. Also, soak the old joint with a penetrant the day before, several times. Aplly pressure to the joint with the c-clamp tool and tap on the ear, it will come out in baby steps. This will save you from destroying your tol. Also before you start, coat the removaltool threads with anti-sieze lube.
