For regular towing of larger weights, the HO Cummins and Aisin is about the best option in NA pickups. I don't tow much so bought the 6.4 gas in a 2500 because I need a long bed. If I went back to towing, I would sell the 6.4 and get the Diesel. Mileage reported by the others on this thread is in line with the Diesel mileage of my hunting partners 2021 4x4 3500 SRW HO Diesel that is towing a 4 horse, living quarters trailer, 95% of the time it is running. Its best attribute is its smoothness, despite all the power, when pulling loaded with horses.

If you are going by the EVIC readout, that's probably not accurate. Hand calculating is the way to go. Congrats on the new truck.
That would take all the fun out of it, I am in Canada , so we have the stupid liters/ 100km crap, and a good day without head wind ( rare) I have got 10 L/100km, same as wife's CRV.
Good enough for me, not that this has anything to do with a 3500 d as I have a 1500 gas.
Little side note that is also useless info, Yrs ago I had 2 Massey combines, one with a 327Chev motor , other with a Perkins diesel motor, running side by side, the chev gas motor used 50gal/ day, the other ran almost 2 days on the same amount. They where not pushed hard.

We've had sunroofs in many cars over the years, including 2 Ram 2500's. We have 3 of them in vehicles we own right now. Never had a leak from any of them.
You drew the lucky straws, then. I've never had a vehicle with a sun roof, but several people I know have and theirs started leaking after 5 or 6 years.

My 2019 3500 HO gets on average 17 - 19 mpg when driving on flat ground and keeping it at 65 mph or less, 16 - 17 mpg driving up and down the hills (I live in the foothills of the Seirra Nevada's at 2500 ft and frequently drive up and down to the closest city. When pulling by 15,000 lb 5ther, I get on average 11 - 12 mpg on the flats and 9 when traveling over and back of the Seirra passes but do not mind the gas mileage since it pulls like a dream over these 10,000-foot passes.

I found on my 2009 3500 mega cab diesel (that I traded in for the 2019 that had much more towing and payload capacity) that once I did the front-end leveling kit and larger tires, I lost 2 -3 mpg so keeping my 2019 stock with original size tires.

Noone, absolutely noone, buys a 3500 for its fuel economy! You buy a 3500 for it towing and load capacity. If you need that capacity, suck it up Sally! It gets what it gets!

2016 3500 4x4, HO cummins dually, every option but the snow plow. 45 foot toy hauler 5th wheel. 33,000lbs going down the road.

Fuel economy is horrible, but I can go up any pass I want!! Pass semis and other RVs when I need too. I bought this truck to pull, and pull it does!

If your worried about fuel economy, cancel liberal greeny politicians!

Cummins High Output 6.7L
Same here. My '19 HO/Aisin dually with 4.10s gets 16 mpg empty. I keep the front tires at 80 psi because that Cummins engine is heavy. My old '95 Toyota Tacoma with the 3.4L six got only 18, so this beast getting 16 I'd say is pretty darn good.

The standard output Cummins would maybe get 18 or 19, but only comes with the Chrysler 68RFE trans. Choosing the 3.73 gears instead of the 4.10 you'd even get better mpg. This is the route I'd go if fuel economy is important to you.

Haven't purchased the truck yet, looking to to what I may be getting into with a 3500 4x4 HO SRW Mega Cab Limited. My old Ram 2500 4x4 Mega Cab SO with 3:42 rear end got 12-13 around town and 21 mpg on the freeway driving from my house to the rental a 110 miles away. Just wondering if the 3500 with the 3:73 to about the same?
My 2016 HO Aisin 4.10 4x4 Longhorn gets 13.2 around town,15.8 OTR, & 9.1 at 63 mph pulling 15k 5th

I have a 2022 Laramie CC Dually 8' bed with the standard Cummins engine. We carry a 4800# truck camper. Last summer we drove from our home near Buffalo, NY to Alaska and back over 2 1/2 months. I typically drive 5 miles over the speed limit, so most of the time we were at 75 mph, and a bit over 80 in some states out west. The trip totaled a tick over 14,000 miles, and averaged 11 mpg. The 50 gallon fuel tank was great! The trip cost $7200 in diesel fuel.

Empty I average 19 mpg at 70 mph.

Maintenance. Keep the drains clear and clean/lube the seals on occasion then its very unlikely to have issues.

Not at all. I know a lot of people with sunroofs. Only one I can think of that complained about leaking was one from back in the late 70's, and I think she had that one put in after market.

I have a 2022 Ram 3500 SRW with the standard 6.7 Cummins. I get about 18-19 on the interstate driving between 75 and 80 if I'm not fighting a headwind, which happens quite often around here. Towing my 40' 15K 5th wheel toy hauler I get 8-9 MPG driving between 65-70. These are true hand calculated figures, not the readout on the dash, which consistently shows better mileage than what I'm actually getting.

What if the concern is actually range, then is it a reasonable question in your mind?

People ask about HD fuel economy, not because they are wondering if it's better than the Camry they are cross shopping, but because they want to have an idea of how much AND HOW OFTEN they'll need to fuel. Some may be driving professionally and fuel prices and downtime matter. Some may be going places that don't have a fuel station every 50 miles. I certainly looked into expected MPG for the PW for the second reason.

Add an auxiliary tank if range is your concern.

It doesn't matter how much fuel you have on board, at some point you need fuel. There are very long stretches up in Canada that does not have 24 hour gas. Most of us have a cardlock card to get around that. The cardlock however does not solve the issue that there are 500 mile stretches with no fuel. At 8 miles to the gallon you need 80 gallons on board to have some margin of safety. Fuel mileage and range is a factor, even if you don't car about the cost of consumption.

Yeah, I did. 91 gallon on top of the factory 32 to be exact. Range is still a concern, at times. Like said in the above post and my post in #16. Some of us need numbers, maybe you not so much.

I have an all stock 22 3500 Longhorn Limited HO LWB CC SRW 4x4 with 3.73, ARE topper, unloaded I consistently get right around 18.5 (all) hiway traveling at ~75mph with mixed light wind. Combined town and hiway, it's about 16.3 with top speeds from 30 to 65mph. All of these numbers are calculated at time of re-fuel. Tire pressures at 70psi, factory original firestone ATs. I am not a speed demon, I just try to drive consistent speeds and roads with few stop lights. I have occasionally experienced high 15's to mid 16's with strong head winds on the hiway.
Oh, and I do have the 50 gallon tank. Wow is that nice to be able to choose where you get the lowest priced fuel on any cross country route. Have not towed with it yet, so I don't have any data to share towing.
Today I drove from central oregon to north idaho, I had a pretty good tail wind (with strong gusts along the Columbia) most of the way, I actually got pretty good economy, just under 20mpg. I am happy with my truck

2016 3500 with the SO 6.7, 68RFE trans, and 4.10 gearing:

I would consistently get 14-14.5 mpg empty in the city and about 16.5-17 mpg highway. Post delete I was seeing in the area of 16.5 mpg city and 18.5-19 mpg highway.

WE have a 2022 3500 HO SWD with 20" tires and 8' box. We tow a 16,000 # fifth wheel. We average between 10.5 and 11.5 depending on whether we are pulling on flat ground or going thru mountains. Empty we average between 19 and 19.5 depending on road conditions.
