What kind of mileage are you guys with the 4.7's? I found an '02 RCSB for a damn good deal and I'm thinking about getting it for my DD. This 9MPG I'm getting in mine is gonna get expensive this summer if gas gets high as everyone says it is. Just wondering if it's worth it for this one or if I should look for something else?

If I didn't need a truck for work as much as I do, I would be looking for a Honda or something like that. But there's too many times I need a full size truck to be without one. Picking up engine, transmission or diff cores is too much work for the little Rangers we have up there

IMO, the 5.7L engine gets better overall gas mileage, out performs the other engines, has less mechanical issues and has a higher resale value.

If I could find a decently priced RCSB hemi that didn't have 160k miles or that wasn't destroyed on the inside, I'd jump all over it. Hell, if I could find a decent QCSB, I'd even consider getting rid of my current truck

with a rc you might not be as bad but with a Quad cab, 4.7, 33" mud tires and 3.55s I get AWFUL mileage and it has no balls whatso ever lol I get about 11 but then again I have the worst of everything (weight, small engine, horrible gear ratio, heavy tires) Id definetly look for a hemi if I were you.

If I get this rc, it'll stay as close to stock as possible. Whatever I get next, if I keep mine that is, will just be a daily driver and nothing more

I havent read beyond this guys post, but this is EXACTLY what I have been saying... the 4-7 is just too small to couple with bigger tires and no re-gear. I get about 9.5-10.

Essentially, I went from a 3.55 ratio to almost a 2.73 with the tire size change. No wonder it feels like a dog! I don't really care too much about this... but I can't even make a little tire noise, ever, no matter how much I stand on the brake/gas, gun it while turning, nada, lol.

That's weird. I went from stock to the same tires as you and with my 4.7 with 3.55 gears I get high 13's all the time. That's me travelling 70-80 mph on the highway every day with a little city driving mixed in. If I stick to back roads and keep it around 55 mph I can get close to 16 mpg. You're 4x4, but that's about the only difference I think.

I don't even think 4x4 is the problem....not sure what is because I get around 16 on highway cruising 65, and around 12-13 in town. Mine's 4x4 with 35 m/t tires and bone stock performance wise

Well, I am basing my numbers off of my uncorrected odometer... Meaning, I haven't had the computer corrected for the change in size. So, this of course is making my calcs off, but still..... Right now I get less than 250miles per tank..... more like 225-240. Say that the odo is off enough to where Im actually getting 300 miles to the tank. Thats still only 11.5mpg.

This is with a clean tb, new plugs (5k ago), clean k&n, diy cai, serviced trans, etc. IDK wtf the problem is, but after hearing you guys its obviously more than the tire size (which I knew deep down).

I will say the winter gas has put a hurtin on the situation. During the summer months Ill max out at around 275 per tank..... which still sucks donkey balls

Now the winter blend could have something to do with it. I don't have that to contend with down here. I also haven't corrected my odometer for tire size either. Sorry...I didn't mean to make you start having doubts about your truck or anything. :(

Oh no brother, it is what it is. I never got more than 12-12.5 around town with the stock size tires (245/65 I think?). I put the tires on, then did all the maintaince (tb, plugs, etc) so I saw a drop, but not so dramatic. Its steadily gotten worse, but I contributed that soley to the winter gas. But theres no way its just the bigger tires and bad gas... 240 miles on a 26 gallon tank is no bueno lol

A little update...
Went and looked at the truck again today. It's got around 90k on it, interior is immaculate other that a small tear in the center console where your arm would rest. Manual locks and windows, spray-in bedliner, brand new tires on the flower petals and they're asking $8500. I'm sure I could talk them down a little on the price, but is their asking price fair or should I keep looking?
