My Flatbed has been slipping ever since It lost the driveshaft some time ago. Now it will not move in drive at all, it does reverse just fine. I tried adjusted the front band to spec, then super tight, super loose, super tight makes reverse buck and you really have to step on it. just right make reverse work "ok" and super loose, reverse is like a brand new truck.
Now if I can magically get the truck to grab first all other gears are fine. When I pulled pan, particles of what I would assume to be Friction material, also metal specs. This trans is far past due for an overhaul, but lets face it with the costs of living and other vehicles, I can not do that at this time. Those of you on this forum know what I've done to this truck.
My question is, they make this "Slip on Band" $35ish, you remove the valve body, cut the old one off and then slip this one on and reinstall it all. Do you think this would solve my no drive issue? Hate to be this guy on my favorite ram so far, but long enough to drive it a few months and sell it or trade in?
OR Must I cough up the $1600+ for the rebuild. Any help, comments, or opinions welcome. I love this truck, it only has 76k miles, but maybe enough is enough.
Pics just so you can see it over the years.
