It finally happened: I'm sitting 900 miles from home towing 8k 5th wheel trailer. on the road here i lost 5th gear due to nut backing out. i know i can run in 4th gear for long trips from earlier posts. my question is what is the best long running RPM for the 24v Cummings? i know that 2500RPM = 65mph. is this a safe speed for longer trips or can i run up to 26 or 27K? not sure of the speeds for those RPMs. any suggestions for getting home so i can do a 6speed replacement would be appreciated. Also could use a link to a good 6 speed if any are around.
truck is a 2001 RAM3500 24v 5 speed Manual 4X4 with 135Kmiles.
