As far as I can find only 4 oils meet the MS-12633 spec: Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Mopar, Amsoil, and Redline. Seeing as those are not readily available in most areas on store shelves in a 0w-40, have any of you experienced any adverse effects from using Castrol Edge or Mobil1 0w-40? I’ve compared the MSDS sheets on all 6 mentioned brands and they all seem pretty close specification wise. I’m sure this has been beat to death, but the search function is not working on my Tapatalk app. My apologies in advance.

I order the pennzoil from o'Reilly's when it's on sale. Was about $4/at after sale and rebate

Amazon has the pennzoil PUP 0w40, I receive it using their subscribe and save service 3x per year. Subscribe and save also gets you a discount on it, along with any other subscriptions you have. Saves you a trip to the store as well.

I just went to Amazon and ordered enough Pennzoil to cover my next three oil changes. It was still the same price as having a shop do one oil change.

Have to say though, I went to rockauto.com and purchased three OEM oil filters. They sent me the wrong ones and I didn't notice it until it was out of return warranty. Ended up grabbing a K&N filter at Auto zone.

Last time I checked, Penz was the only oil that had the MS 12633 certification. How did you determine the others had it?

The website for Redline and Amsoil list that their 0w-40 synthetic now meets the MS-12633 spec. Mopar oil is just rebadged Pennzoil.

It might be all BS, but I only use PUP or Mopar (one in the same). From what I have read, if you don't keep the cam & special lifters for the MDS really clean, you can prematurely ruin them. I only need to change oil 2-3 times a year so I am not going to chance it with some non-spec oil. I have always had great luck with Penzoil anyway. I rarely see it in the stores & if I do it's usually $10+ a quart. Best to order it on Amazon before you are due for a change.

Well I just finished changing my oil with Castrol Edge and a Wix XP filter. We will see what happens.

I thought it was only PUP,A msoil, and Mopar. On the Redline site they say "Recommended" for these vehicles:

Does that mean approved by Mopar? Does it meet spec?

This is in the info about the Redline 0w-40. Specifically says suitable replacement for MS-12633.

A picture of it is in my above reply.

On redline site: professional series OEM aproved, 0w40 not shown.https://www.redlineoil.com/professional-series-motor-oil
On High performance series, 0w40 is listed, no spec for MS12933https://www.redlineoil.com/0w40-motor-oil
the spec listed is for MS-10725. I really would like to try redline 0w40 or 5w40. but am concerned about a warranty claim. I hear from others here that it quiets down the Hemi tick.

Your Post, is it From ECS tuning?

Scroll down and click the “OEM Compatability” tab on the Redline High Performance 0w-40. That’s where you’ll find the MS-12633 spec.

A-tack, Thank you, Ive been holding back on the Redline vs PUP 0w40 as all the research I found was not listed as specific to MS 12633.

Been using PUP 0w40 since new. I get hot idle tick at the end of the last OCI. Sounds great after and oil change. I think the pup shears down at the end of the cycle. I live in a hot climate. Many posters here have said RL makes their 6.4's engines sound smooth as butter.I was unwilling to try RL at 37 K because of warranty compliance, but I may now. My two Blackstone oil reports at 30 and 37 miles were all good.

Wgreggking, the Castrol Edge I put in this morning seems to have the engine running quiter than the factory fill. My truck has 6,900 miles on it. I’m not too worried about the warranty issues. Chrysler changed out a cylinder head on my 2016 town and country and the word oil was never mentioned. I guess it just depends on the dealer. Hopefully I never have any issues with my truck and have to find out. I was able to snag 15 quarts of Castrol Edge and 2 Wix XP filters during amazon prime days for less than what 7qts of PUP and a Mopar filter would’ve cost me.

I’ve been using Mobil 1 since I bout my truck new in 2015. I currently have 118K miles on it. I just pulled the engine out due to multiple lifter rollers seizing and wiping the cam out. I’m going to do a full rebuild. I will make some YouTube videos on it. I will not be using Mobil 1 anymore. I will probably start using Amsoil.

Thanks for this post! There is a chance that the oil had nothing to do with it, but I am betting it was. You should have been able to get twice the mileage out of it before a rebuild.
Thanks again

Shaeffers oil has an approved oil now but it's not cheap like it used to be. I just swapped to Mobil 1 this change interval as its the only 0w40 I could get locally. Now im nervous.
