Thought it'd be nice to have a seperate thread for the sole purpose of tracking ACTUAL Fuel Mileage reports (NOT EVIC) for these 6.4 Hemi powered HD Trucks. Since towing reports can vary so much, let's stick with just EMPTY/NON-TOWING numbers primarily for this thread.

I'll try to track the:
-Best single tank reports (top 5?)
-Best running average
-Worst reports

I may even try to keep a running average of everyone's combined mileage?

If each individual would post their own individual report in this thread, I'll try to keep up with it and update the original post to indicate "updated" records.

To report, post your empty/Non-Towing:
1. Best tank/mileage,
(preferrably with proof),
2. Your current running average(if you have a Fuelly.com account, same as that),
- Include most common or last octane fuel used
3. Your worst tank/mileage.

- Also helpful if you'll include your gear ratio, and what grade/octane fuel was used.

PLEASE DON'T POST EVIC NUMBERS! These are unrealistic, not true numbers. Hand Calculated only, to keep this record as accurate as possible.

If you want to post your geographic location (for me, i'll post Central Kentucky), that would be helpful as well.

BEST Single Tank
1. 17.41 mpg - NewBlackDak *4.10 (fuelly fuel up#18)
2. 17.25 mpg - Sud *89 octane *3.73 (fuelly fuel up #9)
3. 17.12 mpg - skHemi64 *e85 fuel *3.73
4. 17.09 mpg - NewBlackDak *4.10 (fuelly fuel up#28)
5. 16.72 mpg - NewBlackDak *4.10 (fuelly fuel up#30)
6. 16.37 mpg - NewBlackDak *4.10 (fuelly fuel up#15)

BEST Running Average
1. 13.9 mpg - Sud, 07-7-14 (fuelly) *89 octane *3.73
2. 12.8 mpg - NewBlackDak, 07-7-14 (fuelly) *4.10
3. 12.3 mpg - KTM, 07-7-14 (fuelly)
4. 12.1 mpg - Badunit, 06-02-14 *4.10
5. 11.8 mpg - TWILLIAMS9, 07-7-14 (fuelly) *4.10
6. 10.9 mpg - SETEX 6.4, 07-7-14 (fuelly) *4.10

WORST Single Tank
1. 9.53 mpg - SETEX *4.10
2. 9.69 mpg - NewBlackDak *4.10
3. 11.3 mpg - TWILLIAMS9 *4.10
4. 11.3 mpg - granite14 *3.73
5. 11.4 mpg - Badunit *4.10
6. 11.61 mpg - Sud *3.73

My first contribution:

Sud - Central Kentucky

using 89 octane fuel

Best single tank = 17.25 mpg (@ approximately 2500 miles on ODO)
running average = 14.1 mpg
worst single tank = 11.6 mpg (@ approximately 700 miles on ODO)

Best tank proof: 301.9 mi / 17.501 gal = 17.25 mpg.

Other "Best tanks":
330.0 / 20.626 = 15.99
246.4 / 15.810 = 15.58
300.5 / 20.164 = 14.90

I have photographed proof for each of the above (posted in the 6.4 Hemi Thread, page 90 Post #892, if anyone wants verification)

Now this sounds like a challenge.. I got a road trip tomorrow, so maybe I can break in the best tanks.

SUD: you've got your work cut out for ya here. Would it be a good idea to add rear axle ratio and auto vs manual tranny? Just an idea? I'm getting a 4.10 axle and would be curious at any differences. Just an idea.

Yea, that's why I only said I'd try. Haha

I thought about the axle ratios, and I'll give it a shot. If it's provided in a report/by the 6.4 owner, I'll include it.

With 1200 miles on the odometer and 5 tanks (4-1/2, really), my hand calculated numbers are

Best Single Tank: 12.6

Worst Tank: 11.4

Running Average: 12.1

EVIC reads about 0.9 MPG greater than hand calculated. 4.10 gears.

I posted this over on the cummins forum today...towed my 9500 pound, 32 foot fiver about 70 miles this weekend. Hilly but not too awful. Got 9 mpg with the CTD. SRW. 3.42 axle. Not impressed. Can't imagine the 6.4 being any worse! Ugh. A little interstate and a little 2 lane curvy driving, but my gosh...

I didn't take the Ram on the road trip, so no best tank for me. I do have a worst tank of 11.3mpg, #8 on fuelly was not towing

Might be a long time to break into those lists. Don't drive enough non towing miles during the summer to have a non tow tank. If I do, it's still a week or more between fill ups.

no updates from any 6.4 owners?

I've been tracking my mpg but I only have 1700 miles so far so it is not much data. I am averaging roughly 12 mpg hand calculated and all tanks have been in that ballpark. This is a mix of driving around town during the week and on the highway at 70+ mph on the weekends, usually towing a 10' open trailer (1000 lb or so total weight) on the highway. The best I have seen on the EVIC was 20.4 mpg over a 25 mile stretch of hilly road (overall altitude change of +200ft over those 25 miles) at 50-60 mph without the trailer. I always get good MPG on that stretch of road.

I'll add my data. Unfortunately didn't catch this thread til after my fill, so I have no picture proof. I'll be sure to do this in the future, but I'll find a better way to link proofs. Added my fuelly link to my signature below. Hand calculated of course, using EVIC and Scangauge II as real-time feedback. All tanks will be added to fuelly regardless of good, bad, hauling duties. Briggsdale, Colorado.

But for short it has been

4:10 Gears

Worst: 9.53
Best: 12.62
Average: 11

Numbers are from Fuelly.
The EVIC Sucks.
