Also, if you go to the dealer website's service page, and click on the Mopar "e-store" you can go through the electronic accessories, select backup camera or remote start and see their prices for the kit vs installed and even download the PDF install directions.

What's your current zip code and link to this dealers website? I will pay up kinda you need to compare as soon as I can.

Wow those prices are over the top !
I think the Svc mgr is just clueless !

I agree with everything Mpgrimm2 said above , and most importantly if you get confused or your BU Cam kit doesn't work see POST #10 in the BU Cam thread he linked above !

I purchased my factory Back up Cam kit for about $265 from my local dealer , installed it myself in about 6 hours then had the dealer flash in XAC sales code ( for free ! ) usually an hour labor charge of $95 , Funny story , I got the sales code flashed for free because my ******* Svc mgr said it wouldn't work if I installed the kit because I had an RA1 radio , I dold him no worries I'm installing an RA2 5.0 Uconnect at the same time ! He laughed and said that was impossible because my truck wasn't wired for that kinda stuff ha ha ha , I told him " I bet you a free XAC flash that my RA2 install will work and so will the back up cam " He agreed on the free flash !
What a ******* !

so if you install the kit yourself it would set you back less then $400 even if the dealer charges $95 for the flash , some only charge 1/2 hr of labor. ..

Some folks make a deal with the dealer that if you purchase the kit from them ( instead of an online seller for le$$ ) , they will flash in the sales code for free ( mine took 7 mins to flash ! )

Hope this helps !

I highly recommend you locate a different dealer/closer one with NORMAL prices.

I totally agree with you BUT in this situation I am going to make the dealership pay for all of this because of the 6 speed not 8 situation. And as it turns out the remote start from the dealership down the road from me is almost $400 cheaper than the on I bought it from....

I know this has turned into a drag-out conversation and somewhat in the wrong section of the forum but I do appreciate all the help! Needless to say Ill be sticking around here!

Just take them up on their offer for a truck with an 8-speed. Most of the ones that have an 8-speed come with a backup camera anyway. As for all the other bolt-on stuff you want (steps, bedliner, etc.) you can add those on later. get the 8-speed....

Agreed.
I had wanted the 8 speed when I was shopping for a truck originally. For 9 mos. they wouldn't even discuss lowering the price from the MSRP on the SLT CC 4x4 v6/8speed I wanted.
I initially ended up with a deal I couldn't pass up on a 2013 Express CC 4x4 hemi/6 speed for $26500. Went in for an oil change 3 months later and they had the truck I had been trying to get all along posted for $29,400 (price I had been offering). I traded the Express in for $29,000 and picked up the SLT. Couldn't be happier.

Thats some nice wheelin and dealin you did there!! Glad it all worked out for you. The 8-speed is amazing. Its really what sold me on the Ram. I'd been a chevy guy up until test driving the 8 speed,

If it has a column shifter it is a 6sp, if it has a dial shifter its the 8sp

Just like the 5 SPD, a 6 SPD can be floor or column shift. However, being a tradesman, I'm sure it's likely column. All ram 8 speed have the rotary shifter, any other shifter not an 8

Not on a 14. A 14 is either column shift (6 speed) or the electronic dial (8 speed).

Im look at doing a Transmission Swap from my 6 Speed to a 8 Speed, but need help with the process. For example: finding the transmission and installation.

Phone this guy,he's been putting the 8 speeds in where they weren't factory installed.Supposedly it's about 2,000USD if you supply the transmission, and around $4,000USD if he supplies the transmission.

Looks like I'm reviving an old thread here. I recently traded in my 2010 Ram 1500 5.7 with the 6sp Trans for a 2014 ram 1500 Sport with the 8sp. I'm driving highway speeds every day for work and have noticed that the 8sp gets worse gas mileage. I was averaging 400+ miles to the tank in my 2010 and am getting 350+ in 2014. I've always run Super Chevron in both. I live in an area where I am climbing mountaing going to and from work but because of the extra gears, my 2014 is constantly downshifting and running higher RPMs....I thought this truck was supposed to get better MPG. Am I missing something? It does have a Mopar CAI where my 2010 did not. Not sure if that hinders mileage. I guess I'm asking, is this normal for where I drive and the gears in this Transmission?

Were both rear ends geared the same?
Probably not if 8-speed is downshifting.......most likely the 6-speed was geared 3.55 or 3.92 and the 8-speed is 3.21
