I am guessing he means the 14x3 that alot of people have.

I made my own. I also have another one being painted. Its the same base blue but has silver and lime green flames, should have it back sometime soon.

no its more like Luke's which is sick looking. im talking about the classic circular air filters you just screw onto the top on the intake with a wing nut. for a clean classic look

Probably less chance of taking in water.

Mine has been doing fine with its location.

i know you will need to bend the bolt or there is a company that makes the offset bolt for a few deneros and you could get the filter from somewhere. i would think you are getting more airflow by removing the stock setup but the air would be warmer from the heat of the engine. that could be countered with a 180* t-stat and a powerwire.

You can get the bolt from a Duranog or Dakota, thats where my air hat is from.

theres also s-bolt diy's on other boards out there i bought some 1/4 20 threaded rod and bent mine myself when i had my 5.2l....my opinion on the round classic is to much engine heated air, need something like wermbang has for better flow...cooler air...

I have had them all. It is definitely better than stock, especially with the k&n element. You would be just fine with a 14x3 up there in NY. There really isn't any power difference between a CAI and 14x3, just personal preference on looks and sound pretty much. And if you do go the 14x3, I hope you like the noise because it is loud, which was cool to me, but not on long trips at interstate speeds.

Down here in FL the intake temps got way to hot, about 171 degrees! Now with my S&B CAI my intake temps are around 123 degrees. Many say intake temps don't make a lick of difference on the 2nd gen's with the way our systems work since we use MAP sensors instead of MAF sensors. However, when I had my 14x3 I developed a spark knock due to the hotter air. With my cold air intake I get about the same performance and no spark knock.

Here are some pics

By the way, you may perceive a slight low end loss on power with the 14x3 (There really isn't, it just sounds like your motor is working harder at lower RPM due to the increased noise)

Hope this helps.

Thanks man, mileage kind of depends. At first, your mileage will take a huge dip because there will be no way in hell you will be able to keep your foot out of it. City mileage won't change to much but expect 1.5 at the most on the highway.
