Hey everyone. New to this forum. I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500. Recently my 4.7 has been acting up so I'm considering a swap since I'm going to have to spend some money anyways. Wanting to do this in the next 6 months. Any info is greatly appreciated. Not looking for a ton of HP but I'd like something I could improve on later. I did very little research on The 4.7 and there doesn't seem to be anything to really improve upon it. What would be the best options for a swap coming in somewhere between 6,500 and 9,500 dollar range. I would like to keep the stock transmission for the time being if possible. I've done replacement engines I'm the past but they were turnkey. Never really been Inside a motor. Probably don't want to do it for the first time on this particular project. Thanks in advance for any help.

what are you thinking about ?

Is your truck worth keeping, if it had a good engine ?

Pull the engine & see if it is rebuildable ?

Just buy a rebuilt engine & get your heads machined ?

OR WHAT

I'm wondering what motor other than the 4.7 would be the easiest to swap into my dodge. Doesn't necessarily have to be high performance for now. I would however like to be able to increase performance as time goes on with whatever motor I do swap into it. But for now I just want to know which motor I could later do work for more hp on. I want a larger/ better motor than the 4.7 though. And would like to stay with the current transmission uf possible. Not a bug deal of I can't though I reckon. Wanting info on options

It is WAY easier to buy the more powerful truck. The 4.7 can't be built to be a real powerhouse and if you put something else in its place, tranny, electrical and a raft of other stuff needs to change. Far easier to just buy a truck with the bigger motor. The V10 in a 2500 and the 4.7 get pretty simialr gas mileage but far different performance. If you want to stick to a 1500, move up to the 5.7 Hemi. Just a whole bunch easier to get performance parts for.

If you are dead set on keeping it go follow my 4.7 rebuild, I did about a year ago on here. I have just about every upgrade that you can do to a 4.7 besides forced induction.

Oh yea there is a guy on you tube and his channel is martinbuilt. If it can be done to a 4.7 he covers it.
