My dads '15 cummins is in the shop all the time and gets 8mpg without a trailer. My duramax got 8mpg grossing over 30k. Never really had a problem with the engine itself, but I can't leave well enough alone. It could move good for a truck that weighed 12k.

I have been hauling hay with my 454 and 6.5. I don't have a ball in the Ram yet but it will be hauling horses and show cattle mostly.

No, that was the first good snow since 2013.

Your dad must have a lemon

Only been back to the shop for recalls, and a bad trans pan gasket, otherwise love the truck, I’ve had both the 6.4 and the 6.7 tradesman packages, personally, cheapest mod, remove the stock huge muffler and replace with a piece of 3.5” tubing, and be prepared to watch your gas mileage drop thanks to your right foot and ears [emoji23]

He loves the truck but imo a gasser would be cheaper for feeding cattle. It runs pretty well too but 8mpg daily and 4 mpg towing is worse than my 454. My duramax got the exact same feeding cattle as my 454.

I feed with my 6.4 and 4.56, 10mpg. That includes driving 10-12 miles to and from the ranch. At the ranch however, with the hay trailer and 4x4 the whole time, it almost gets 7...

I know it will tow. My dad has a '12 5.7 hemi 2500 has done decent but they hunt gears alot unloaded.

The salesman tried telling me that 3.73 was better for towing, I showed him the tow rating with 4.10's that was 3k higher and he stopped arguing. I'm not saying the 3.73's can't do the job and I've never been stopped and had my tow rating checked, I just want the best set up for a work truck as I can get. I figured worst case scenario I would just lock it in 4th gear with a trailer.

My father in law has a ‘13 ram 2500 and his truck has the 5.7 and it does shift a lot unloaded and mileage sucks when towing. I’ll get about 1-2mpg better w my setup w the 6.4 w 3.73 vs his 5.7 w 4.10.

Ive pulled some pretty heavy trailers and yes the 1-2,2-3 shift does stink but It does good for now till the gear swap comes along :)

He has an arm bed, 2000# cake box, and 100 gallon diesel tank on his truck. His is a srw cab and chassis w/ the aisin. He feeds 100 head on the ranch, is 12 miles to town or 20 miles to the other pastures. He averages 8mpg.

I don't plan to use mine like that for awhile, I'd rather use an older truck.

I like rhe old IDI diesels. Nothing fast about them but with a little tlc they are dependable rigs.

My service truck is currently a 95 Chevy 6.5L w/ 333k miles on it. Still fires up every morning and hauls tools and fuel to the tractors.

Agreed, and we used to run 4 Chevy 6.5's. Decent mileage, I liked them. Oh, and I apologize for the slight high jack...and the pic of that Ford. Carry on

So what are your plans for the hemi? I hope it's not towing that gooseneck full of bale's around? Lol.
Never been a fan of the Chevy diesel, cummins is the only way to go for that.

.
Well if he’s going from pasture to barn that gasser is the way to go. Tons of idling. If he’s delivering down the highway I agree 100%. The ole 6.7 would be better.

I'm not racist, I can enjoy wrenching most brands.

I have 4 6.5's, a half ton 6.2, ls swapped 94 C3500, and a cammed 97 454 k3500. Having one truck I don't have to work on is a plus lol

I could see that more but his 5.7 2500 is the one that he takes on highway trips to get lumber, he is a housing contractor on the side.

Is there a way to change the tire pressure alert to a lower number? Unless I'm planning to tow I'd prefer to keep all tires at 50-60 but the alert is coming on at 65 psi on the rears

Will alphaobd reset everything on tpms? I think I understand that the receiver hub needs changed at the dealer?

Will alpha obd void warranty if used?
