so ill ask the question.........

How the hell does a bolt break from just sitting there doing its thing......you know, holding **** together?

I can assume those who have had the broken bolt did not wrench on them ( like adding headers or some **** ) personally to make the bolts weaken or break?

How many miles are you guys seeing this broken exhaust bolt at? I have a 14' with 18k miles and it is as quiet as can be.

Got my truck used at 35,000 miles so dont know if this is the first time it happened or not but mine started at around 54,000.

I wonder what it is caused by?? Is there an a/c drain that is by the exhaust manifold. Kinda like how the Mustang V6 cars were?

I was told by a tech at the dealer to pull on the heat shield toward the rear of the manifolds as those are the most common bolts to break. If there's any movement in the manifold a bolt is broken. Tried it on mine and its solid.

I was told the same thing. I checked mine and all was solid. Rear bolt on driver side was broken.

Guess different cases for everyone.

Ha you can try it.

Just not a very good "test" method.

Tech told me this happens wayyyy more often than people think.

Maybe ram fixed it for newer models. Idk.

Somewhere I thought I read they fixed this problem on the 2013+ trucks by using different bolts...

Is this an issue on 13+... looks like everyone that said it happened to them was '12 or older.

The hemis run hot on the rear cylinders and the intense heat cycles will eventually break the bolts. They've revised the hardness of the 13+ bolts though and I haven't heard of problems with them.

When broken ones are repaired on the 09 to 12s, as long as you get the bolts at the dealer, they will be the new ones.

Which leads me to question if this is a 5.7 issue only....

My srt with the 6.1 had 80k+ before I sold it....not nicely driven miles might I add...and that whole engine package was bullet proof, never had one issue.

So I have a 2010 with 45k on it. Same ticking noise when cold. I believe it is out of warranty. What is the fix? New manifold, gasket, etc?

I am curious to the answer to this question as well. I have 86K on my 4.7L.
