Since my stock MOPAR nerf bars have to be replaced anyways from the accident, I thought this might be a good time to see about upgrading to a different brand.

I currently have the chrome MOPAR steps, but I have since blacked out my truck since purchasing it. I thought about the black MOPAR steps, but then I started to look into other brands.

Here is what I am thinking. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

1. HDX drop wheel to wheel nerf step bars

2. N-FAB Wheel to Wheel

3. Go with the black MOPAR

I've used NFab's step bars on my last 3 Ram trucks and never had a problem with them.

The 3-step version is super nice for being able to step up to my tool box mounted in the back.

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for recommendation. I didn’t see the 3-step version for CC short bed on their site.

N-FAB uses super crappy powder coaters just a heads up. I love N-FAB, have lots of there products, but every product ive got there powder coat job is terrible. Bumper was already peeling when i got it, nerf bars were peeling on the mounts as well and SUPER thick on the steps so the N-FAB you cant even tell what it says lol. My 4runner has N-FAB nerfs as well and same thing, powder was peeling off mounts when brand new

EDIT: Products are great, i love them and have zero complaints about the actual products. Its whoever they use to powder coat there stuff really sucks lol

Thanks for the info. Are Westin products any good or do they not compare to N-Fab?

We had those N Fab, pain to get out of, going in not bad, out, kind of a real small footprint.

Check out Truck Gear by Line-X. Lifetime warranty and uses factory mounting points. They come in Chrome (I have the 5" oval straight) but can be Line-X'd like the photo below.

I wuz talkin' about my set up... LOL

But I have a CC short bed now, and so were the previous two trucks, so I'm pretty sure they have them there.

Thanks for recommendation. I didn’t see the 3-step version for CC short bed on their site.

Well, I called Westin and the HDX step downs and the 5” oval require drilling. I really don’t want to drill into the body so I will look at other manufactures.

I can also attest to this. I need to pull mine and repaint/coat as there’s a few spots that are rusting. The spots I’ve found that need extra attention is any spot that connects at a sharp angle, in the hoops of the steps to start. Also at the mounting points and the open end at the front of each nerf bar.

I wish I knew who made the running boards on my dads All Terrain X and if they made something similar for the Ram. I love the way they look and I also need something in black to go with the rest of the black on my truck.

I went kinda cheap this time too. Bought a set of Mifeier 5" oval stainless from Amazon for $188. They work great and they are much nicer than I expected them to be for the price. Don't know how well they will hold up over time. I'm in Florida, so no bad winters to contend with, just salt air. These also come in black.

I had Westin brand wheel-to-wheel nerf bars on my last Ram. They looked nice, but they were not very functional as steps because they were round (instead of oval) and they mounted too close to the rocker panel. Much prefer the cheap 5" ovals steps I have now.

I have the Westin HDX steps on my 14 CC and they are going on my new 18 CC when it warms up. I did NOT have to drill anything. They require you to use revserts if yours don’t have the OE installed. I decided against the revserts and made my own brackets that slip in and bolt on. No issues with the westin HDX drop steps. My coating is uniform and it had just a few chips from shipping. It I touched it up and so far so good.

Here they were on my black 14 express.
