Did my color matched mirror caps. Seems to be a bad batch of drivers caps going out

So after the 3 month wait for these to come in the drivers side didn’t fit. Dealer got me a new replacement within a week (inventory must be caught up), but the replacement had the same issue.

I ended up having to dremmel the 4 or so tabs on the cap. They were physically too thick at the end of the clips. You can see this when comparing them to the OEM cap.

They are using a different manufacturer for the painted caps than the chrome ones. This can be seen by looking at the marking and mold lines on the backside of the caps.

Also be careful when removing the actual glass mirror. You must not pull on them at too much of an angle or they will easily crack. My passenger mirror was $150.

Also make sure you test the power mirror motor before installing the mirror back. Removing the mirror can force the motor to get out of position to the point it gets stuck. You have to remove the motor and the back retaining clip to adjust the motor back in place. Removing the motor is just one hex screw in the center of the motor housing.

Sorry to hear about your cap situation. Mine went on without a hitch, but definitely it’s the not the same quality as the fake chrome covers. It’s a “ one and done “ deal as in if something were to happen, my chrome caps will be going back on ASAP. Plus for some odd reason the passenger side is quite the fighter !!!

Just finished that change as well as the front header applique and tailgate handle. Covers fit and gave me no problems.

Some of the glass horror stories have made me hold off on this. Maybe I'll muster the courage this weekend lol.

It's not as bad as I made it out. I just wanted to emphasize some points of caution. I can swap both out in 5 minutes now (I had some practice haha).

Do any of you guys happen to have the part number for the caps? I went to 2 different dealerships and their parts guys couldn't find the caps, of course they wanted to sell me an entire mirror assembly.
