Has anyone gotten rid of the power robbing clutch fan attached to the motor and installed an electric fan? If anyone has, which electric fan was used?

I'm wanting to get rid of the clutch fan on my truck and want to make the switch.

Not sure on an a Gen3. On the Gen 4, the V6 fan replaces the one on the Hemi. There are lots of aftermarket options for e-fans and controllers, and some of them get pretty pricey.

Not quite the same, but on my '01 Dakota, I pulled the clutch fan and ran the AC fan for a few years with no issues.

So the newer Rams used electric fans? If so, then I need to go to the junk yards. Not like I needed an excuse to go to them, anyway. Junk Yards are my Spring-Early Fall weakness.

From what I've read, the Gen 4 V6 - both the 3.7 and Pentastar 3.6 use the E-fan. I haven't found one at the local pull-a-part yet.

4.7 Magnum V8 NOW with Moose Power
I have the Flex-a-lite 183 fan with the Flex-a-lite 32050 Thermostat. Works like a charm. Stock 4.7. Just chipped. Avg mpg last tank was 18.

Are you saying that you can just swap out the clutch fan if you find the E-fan in the Gen4?

3rd gens did not come with electric fans EXCEPT for the A/C fan. Some 4th gens did from the factory. It is not a retrofittable plug and play to a 3rd gen. Two most popular eelctric fan conversions for 3rd gens are flexalite 180's and early 90's 3.8 Taurus fan.

Is this the proper fan?
How much of a project would it be to replace the clutch fan?
Is there much cutting and wiring?

Looks like it but I'll let someone who has actually done the conversion to confirm it for you. Taking out the clutch fan is fairly easy. Since there is no harness to an electric fan for a 3rd gen, you would running new wires, in line fuse, wiring to switch, etc to power it.

For a gen3, you might be better off getting an e-fan kit from Jegs or Summit.
