Hey Guys,

My 2018 6.7L 2500 doesn’t seem to be getting up to normal operating temperature, and not sure if this is just because it is cold outside or if something is wrong. The photos were taken after a 50 mile drive at highway speeds. I rarely see it go over 170 degrees and the temp gauge up top hasn’t gone over the 1/4 mark recently. I recently had the TSB “fixed” with the code update for the P0128 - Thermostat Rationality. Seems like it started to keep the engine temp cooler ever since that code popped up but could just be coincidence. I don’t have the blanket installed on the front either. Is this temp range normal? 25k miles.

Service Bulletin - 18-040-18 Rev A

Thanks

I see outside temps are a bit cool 33 degrees but even at that temp I would think you would see coolant temps around 180+ at 55 MPH... Does the coolant temp ever go above 170 at other time's when the outside temp is say in the 45-50 degree range? Does your truck have active grill shutters? If so it could be they are closing all the way or staying open more then required thus allowing full air flow to Radiator and keeping the coolant temps low..

I would start with a Cummins TStat change. My 2011 CTD will get to 200F in colder temps than that in less miles than yours. These engines warm up slower in cold but do get to full operating temps.

Just joined....just bought an '18 2500 6.7L and I'm having this exact issue. Did you replace the thermostat? If so, did it solve the issue?

Check your thermastat. In Wyoming it is a common practice to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator in winter to increase the engine operating temperature in the cold. We take them out in the spring.
