Agreed.
Can go with 285 but selection is more limited, Could go larger but may end up having to use spacers or trimming wheel liner.

Go too large & the tires look "stuffed", in the wheel well and begins to take away from the trucks appearance, IMO.

Tires should be part of the trucks overall look but not the focal point of the truck.

Like having an insanely huge mirror that grabbed your eye, first thing. Why?

Then again, at Christmas time, I am more a fan of single lit candle, in every window of a house versus 9K pieces of wal-mart plastic, lit up and scattered about the property.

Each his own.
I agree. I want to keep it clean and functional. Thanks for the advice!

What's the highest mileage you guys have on your bills? Just wanted to see how they hold up at 30, 40000 miles if anyone has that many miles on theirs. Thanks in advance fellas.

That's good to hear. I've heard nothing but good things about bills, I was just wondering how everyone's are holding up after some mileage. Didn't know if they have a mileage recommendation to change them out.

Bilstein recommends every 50K but the shocks are warrantied for life.

I have a 2014 outdoorsman and have a Quick question, and this is assuming billsteins are installed in the front at the 2.8 setting. I'm thinking about going with this setup, and I'd also like an extra inch of height in the back to have a little bit it of rake. If rear bills do not raise your truck at all, what are the advantages of using bills in the rear compared to stock? Do they have a better ride/performance when combined with a rear spacer? Or will a good quality spacer do just fine with stock shocks? I had been reading how spacers load the shock prematurely like in the other tagged threads, I'm just wondering how this effects the rear as well.

Thanks guys!

Frank

Good Question , Sir!!

Bilstein 5100 are firmer and much stronger, than stock shocks. Using bils, up front, and leaving OEM shocks on the rear, will most likey cause the OEM rear shocks to wear out quickly. at the very least, you will notice a handling difference between the front and rear end. they will behave differently since the shocks will react differently, to each bump or surface imperfection.

My understanding is rear can lifted 1.5 inches, safely. with no ill effects. Most tend to go with .75 or one full inch of rear spacer, with front set 2.8.

However, a few have posted up that going with the 2.8 setting, on the fronts, caused them to experience a slight shudder, when in 4x4 mode. this seems to not be such and issue with the newer 2013 and up trucks. Evidently the axles were redesigned to for the air suspension option.

Hope this helps.

Everything Bilstien Mega Thread

Hello RF,

I was going to add a thread about my wheels, tires and Bil 5100 install. But, there are tons of those threads and it would probably do the forum good to just add it here. Any who....
Here is my truck yesterday morning. Stock height and stock Laramie 20" wheels. 275/60r20 stock tires.

Tires off, for those interested.... Got a Bil 5100 before and after shot.

Then, finished product.
I actually had a thread earlier seeking advice on budget wheels and tires. However, tax season was very good to me this year.

I'm considering getting the Bilstien 5100's on my 2014 Ram 1500. I haven't seen anyone on here running them at .7 or 1.4 and those are the heights I'm considering. I really don't want to ruin the ride, put excessive wear on the suspension components or blind everyone at night when I have anything in the bed. I would greatly appreciate any inputs on how raising the front .7 or 1.4 inches would affect ride and wear.

When I had my 1500 I ran them at 1.4. Nearly leveled it out and had zero issues with the exception of, as you point out, the occasional oncoming motorist thinking I had my hi-beams on with a load in the bed.

Nose high!

I just had Bils installed front and back. I had the Bils set at 2.8 and a 1 inch Top Gunz spacer put on the rear Bils but I am definitely nose high. I measure 40 1/4 in the rear and 41 1/4 in the front. I hope it settles because I don't want to have to pay labor again to have them brought back down to 2.1 in the front and an alignment again!

I dk if I missed it or not. But did you explain what size wheel you could run with the bilsteins 5100 at 2.1 with a 35x12.20 tire. Wanting to know what offset and wheel width I should go with for my rubbing. Thanks. It's on my brand new 2016 4x4 with the 5.7!!
