I currently run Michelin Defender LTX M/S LT295/65R20's for summer shoes on my stock 20" rims. These are equivalent to 35's.
Zero rubbing issues and great road handling and feel, especially in wet road conditions.
Albeit I do have Bilstein 5100's all around with the fronts set to 2.1" raised, all on stock springs and the front UCA's are also original with 141,000Km's on them now and tight AF with no issues.
Last picture (in the parking lot) is from last summer when I was running LT285/65R20 BFG KO2's.
I prefer the larger Michelin's now, and actually gained back nearly 2mpg when I switched to the Michelin's vs. the BFG's.
Edit - no wheel spacers as I don't prefer them. To me, this adds another level of potential for failure and/or safety considerations I don't need in my daily driver. This is just my preference though, and not slamming anyone for having spacers.
With the 295's there is a bit of tire poke outside the wheel wells, and to me it looks fantastic without being too much, if you know what I mean.
With the 295's I have a middle fingers worth of space between by UCA and the tire, and this is plenty of space. Going wider (say, 305) you'd be hard pressed to not have to use wheel spacers to get the clearance.
