Has anyone removed their front bumper air dam? The clearance gained would be approx 3" if it wasn't there. I understand the purpose of the air dam but its it really that effective vs the height clearance gained?

tons of people remove them. they dont do much

That is what I thought, kind of like an aftermarket spoiler on a Civic, not any help, just more weight. I'll more than likely be fabricating my own bumpers soon but in the meantime removing the air dam. Thanks!

Depends on your driving habits / conditions.

They make a large difference on open highway mileage (2-3MPG potentially).
But if you're the type that races down the interstate, passing everyone you can, always rolling into the throttle, you'll never notice the difference.

Also, if you've leveled your truck, you've already done a lot of damage to your truck aero as is, making it worse? Eh, don't matter much

The front bumper will be about 3/4 the height of the existing chrome bumper without the air dam. It will slope back a little... you'll see once done in the next month or 2. :)

The air dam helps to smooth the airflow under your truck and avoid all the under carriage "stuff" that would create turbulence and drag.

It also helps to pull air out of the engine compartment with the smoother flow under the truck keeping the engine cooler.

If your lifted the air dam does nothing anyways as the items it was suppose to make the air avoid are all exposed..

Saw this on another forum... trimmed a few inches and remounted. I might need to give it a try some weekend...

Remove it today, weather and time was needed. I like the look more as the bottom of the bumper now lines up with the body. 4.25" ground clearance gained. :)

I think I may try trimming as well, just in case I scrap something, rather it be the trim instead of the bumper.

With the clearance gained you won't have to worry, for the most part. The height of the bumper itself is about 12". The front bumper I'm going to make is about 10"

There is one 10mm bolt on each side, the rest are push pins.

Tools used: 10mm wrench, flathead screwdriver (to pop-up the pin) and needle-nose pliers to pull the pin out.

your must have the chrome bumpers? I have 2 "pins" on each end that seem to be molded into the air dam, 4 10mm screws, and like 6 push pins

Yup chrome here, 2x 10mm bolts and about 10 push pins (didn't count them).

I also tried removing mine unbolted everything on my color matched bumpers and it didn't budge. If it weren't for my airdam my bumper wouldn't be cracked right now
