Has anyone noticed a slam/jerk when hitting the gas hard?

My wife and I noticed on a trip to Niagara Falls the other day that when I would hit the gas to merge or pass we’d feel like a harsh slam. A hard clunk and it would accelerate normally.

Didn’t always happen. I will admit sometimes I let off the gas and let it downshift and than I’ll go for it. I’m not flooring it by any means here and just normal highway BS. Trying to merge and some A-Hole will speed up and trying to get in passing lane etc.....

My oil change will be in about a month or so and I want to have all the issues I’ve experienced since last oil change looked at all at once

Thanks for any info [emoji106]

Can't say I have noticed this. I would suspect the trans though.

Do you have a 36 gallon tank? some people say the fuel sometimes sloshes to the rear on hard acceleration if you have 1/2 a tank or less and makes a thud sound and they feel a bump. If you decelerate or brake then hit the gas it increases the effect. On a larger scale I have pulled tankers with no baffles and a 10,000 tanker half full can feel like the brakes locked up when accelerating and it hits the back of the tank, and like being rear ended hard when braking and the load sloshes to the front.

No just the regular 26 gallon tank

I've had what I consider a "slip" in first gear only. Never in any other gear.

I get some funky shifts in stop and go traffic; mostly weird downshifts, but nothing like you've described under acceleration.

I can produce this bump on command. Anytime you coast downhill and then want more speed (traffic) this happens.

It happened 2-3x on my last road trip. Everytime it was coasting downhill then accelerating the thing hardshifts bumps then goes. Mine is physical the truck shakes/lunges from that bump

No harsh shifting otherwise? Harsh shifts are usual an internal leak that screws up adaptation values. i.e. the transmission increases hydraulic pressure to compensate for the leak which causes rough shifting otherwise.

The second gen 8speed has a coast feature used to save a tiny bit of fuel. If FCA enabled it, it can be slow to disengage because the adaption is off.

32 gallon.......not 36

And it's 1/2 to full tank when most notice it.......on mine, it's most noticed in the 5/8 to 3/4 range

Keep in mind this is an 8 speed transmission. When you do a hard kickdown event you may be dropping several gears which is a pretty severe gear ratio change.

Driveshaft slip joint maybe? I had a similar thunking after first buying, turned out no lube on slipjoint caused a thunk on downshift to first. Sometimes it was coming to a stop at light then when releasing brake and accelerating i would get a thunk. Like a bad u joint or gears. Dealer replaced shaft

Well, it’s funny you say that. When I first bought it I noticed when going from drive to reverse or vice versa it would clunk pretty hard. You can feel it and hear it. Took it to dealer they said normal. So I left it. It’s doesn’t always do that but when it does I know. It’s weird. If it blows the driveshaft it’s on record I complained about it

Sometimes I worry I got a lemon. I’m just crossing my fingers it’s just little oddities that are harmless. She’s gonna have to last me a while

The SOBs always say/try that "normal" crap. Sometimes you gotta grab em by the earlobe, "get in my truck" and show em what normal IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE

That is the standard answer, hoping you will buy it and leave. If it is your 1st full sized truck, maybe, but if not, then if it is different enough for you to notice, it is likely not normal. Stay on them about it. My dealership use to always tell me the same thing, it's normal, till they got a new service manager for my team, and now, he seems to listen to me, as he has learned when I tell him something is wrong, my track record is 100%, even when the previous dude told me it was normal.

I think they are taught to say this so you will buy it, then you get use to it, and no longer notice the noise. So when the part actually breaks, you are out of warranty, and the repair bill is on you.

Fat fingers, bad proof reading. Yes, 32 gallons.:)

Ha...can understand and relate to both...........

Hi FXCLM5,
This is not what we hope to hear from our customers. We understand that you are just sharing your experience with other forum members at this time. However, if you do choose to visit a dealer to have this diagnosed further, we would like to offer our assistance as well. Please feel free to send us a private message with additional information.
