rebuilding the steering coupler is cheap. you can do it for about $10 or so depending on if you have all the proper tools. you would also want to grease the coupler good. that should help it last longer if you rebuild it. i have even seen people add a grease nipple to their couplers. you will need a 12 point 3/8" socket no matter what route you go. you may also want to start spraying the bolts on the steering shaft with penetrating oil so that they should not be too hard to take if you plan on rebuilding the coupler soon.

I have a math question. the sticker on the door post on my truck says it came with 195/75/15 but I am running 235/75/15's. Is this enough to make a deference on my MPG math? my math it 120 = 130 miles every 120 miles i drive i gain 10 miles does this sound right?

The taller the tire, "shortens" your final drive ratio. Stock height tires with say 4.11=4.11, but if you go up in size, say to 33's, it might make it feel like you have 3.55 ratio. Aspect ratio of the tire is as follows- 195/75r15= 195mm tread width/side wall height is 75% of width, "r" radial tire, 15= rim diameter. If you change the with, but not the height= taller tire. I'd have to look around, but I have all the formulas for figuring this stuff out. Hope this helps.

I find it hard to believe that truck came with 195s, that is absurdly small for a truck....even a Ranger. But anyway, the taller the tire, the taller the rear gear ratio, so more MPG if you can manage it but your speedo will be off.

the tire calculator on tire discount . com says a 195/75/15 is 26.5" tall and a 235/75/15 is 28.8" tall, My speedo reads 50 when I'm going 55. 2 inches doesn't sound like much but comes to -62.22 rotations less a mile. Am I over thinking this?

You're sort of over thinking it. It just means that you're probably getting better MPG than you are calculating since your ODO is slow.
