My 4.7 has 160K plus, now that I am close to having the heads off to replace the gaskets I noticed the cam chains do not look warn, the guides and tensioners don't really look bad, the cams and rollers are not showing any wear or cracking. My oil pressure was decent (over 80PSI warm at highway speeds) and there were no ticks/knocks.
Once I replace the head gaskets I'm sure the thing will run super and might fool me into wanting to keep it for a while.
But it is a 4.7, with over 160,000 miles. How many miles can you get out of one of these?
My intention from the beginning was to sell it. I can't sell something that I know has a problem, I could have sold it with the head gasket bad being it still kept water for 4 weeks. Not me.
If they are good to210 or 220 I might keep it and put a motor in it when the end is near but if that is unrealistic and nobody gets close to 200 out of a 4.7 then I do want to dump it while I know it is in good shape.
So what are the odds?
