Looking to upgrade, but mildly. 2011 RCSB.

Stopped by a local place to see what's up. He recommended one of two HUs; the Pioneer 2300 or the JVC 430. He also recommended running 6.5"s in the doors instead of 6x9's.

Thoughts?

I don't need anything crazy. I'd like to Bluetooth my phone to the HU to stream music/phone calls and have nicer speakers. No plans for subs or anything like that.

Nav would be a plus but not necessary.

If you are not going to run subs, I would not put 6.5" in the front doors. It'll thin the music out too much due to lack of midbass.
I personally would replace front door speakers with a higher performing 6x9. 6x9's have much more cone area than 6.5" speakers so they will keep the music fattened up

Does anybody make a plug n play setup like kicker did in the past? Door speakers I can do myself pretty easy iirc, it's just finding the right ones.

These are the speakers, tweeters would go on the dash 6 and 1/2 half would go in the doors.

I have an old JVC touchscreen without navigation my ram came with, it still works. Lol. Old owner must have bought it when he bought the truck in 2010.
I installed the T2 6.5" components in my front doors, and rockford power 3 way 6x9s in the rear doors. It sounded ok unamplified, but amplified with 120rms running to each speaker it is night and day different. Lets just say i am perfectly ok with not having a sub. Lol.

But if your not going to amplify the speakers, I would get some that do not handle a lot of power so the jvc or pioneer will will be able to make them sound good. Both of those radios have a decen power rating.
Like was said above, if your not going to amplify or add a sub, I would reccomend 6x9s front and rear. My 6x9s produce a ton more bass than my 6.5 components.

Changing your door speakers is so easy you'll laugh after you do it. It's a total of 10 screws man. One behind the door handle, 5 plastic around the door panel, and 4 screws that hold the speaker in.

I used the Infinity Reference 6 x 9 coaxles in my doors

I had to add 1/4" spacers , but fit no problem, sound is far better than the stock units

Thanks guys. I'm thinking I'm gonna order the JVC 430 and have that installed, then do speakers myself.

Both shops I went to wanted to run 6.5"s in the doors (regular cab) and teeters in the dash where the 3.5"s are now. Thoughts on that?

How much space is there between the speaker and the back of the grill for those of you running spacers? (Door speakers)

Tons. You'll have no problems with a 1/4" spacer at all.

There is room,

Mine sit so far back I ordered Stinger speed rings

I would roll with a Pioneer or Kenwood with the feature set you are looking for, just never had any luck with JVC products. . . . .

Latest Bluetooth would be a deal breaker for me

what is your question exactly? If you get 4 of the Kicker CS 6x9 they will fit in the back doors no problem, but you'll need 1/4" spacer to allow them to fit in the front doors. The kicker 3.5" fit in the dash.

Witch mentioned going with Pioneer or Kenwood instead of JVC.

Regular cab, so no back doors.

Also with 22w rms on the JVC and no plans for an amp, what should I be looking for, or avoiding in speakers?

JVC and Kenwood are the same company. I prefer interface and looks of Kenwood a little more though.

no plans for an amp - just got with the CS speakers.

Nothing other than I have never had luck with JVC

For me Bluetooth is important so I would see who has the best , for you it may be another feature that is most important, Both Pioneer and Kenwood make great head units
I would just get the one that has the most features you can utilize

Alpine makes great headunits as well, but typically a little behind the tech curve, for instance typically weaker Bluetooth than Pioneer and Kenwood

Kenwoods new high end have high res screens, basically making others look pretty bad, sure all of them will up there game to meet the challenge.

Shame seems like they just spoon feed the tech out as slow as possible

Last week just installed the Pioneer Nex 2300 in my 09 sport and couldn't be happier. The bluetooth connectivity is really fast and the eq settings are awesome.

There's a kicker set that's specifically made for Dodge/Ram vehicles, I'm not sure if there are any big differences on the doors between my 2016 RCSB and your truck, but it was a direct bolt in for me to use and it uses 6x9s for the doors and tweeters for the dash, part number below:
