I'm creeping up on new tire time and I'm starting to obsess about moving from 35's to 37's. I've got an 18+4 14k lb tilt bed trailer and an aluminum slant load 3 horse trailer. Aside from the unlikely possibility of towing my best friend's camper, I don't see me ever towing heavier loads with any sort of regularity.

IIRC I have 3.92 gears. If I just slap 37's on what can I realistically expect as far as power loss, reduced towing capacity (enough to matter), fuel economy, etc.? Anything that I didn't mention? Anyone done it? Would you do it again?

Thanks in advance. Here's a pic of the truck in question.

Here is a pic of what I saw when I looked over while driving out to hunt a week ago. I think it may have been an omen. I know it was a suggestion. :anitoof:

A major draw back to 37's is they won't fit in the stock spare tire location. If that doesn't concern you, then I say do it!! These trucks look great on 37's!!

I still have the factory spare under the bed. Don't ask me why, I wouldn't put it on if I had to.

First of all, "nice looking rig!" I think your set-up looks perfect as is....

Not a diesel here, but by my experience I can tell you that you`ll definitely "feel" the 37`s a lot more than the 35`s!

With 35`s my truck still felt pretty peppy, the 37`s made it a little sluggish, which was helped somewhat by installing a pedal commander!

If I keep my current truck and tow the planned travel trailer next spring I`ll probably put my stock rims w/35`s back on and maybe even re-gear!

Bigger tires means more wear and tear in entire suspension, steering, and drivetrain. This can accelerate the need for repairs and increase costs. It will reduce towing capacity and capabilities, your truck will handle differently. But they look nice, with right upgrades it can be a cool ride. Good luck

If you plan on going with 37s definitely regear .... even if you have 3.92s you will feel it ... I had 37s on my 1500 with 3.21s and it ran fine, but now especially going uphill you can once again feel the power of the HEMI!

Are you talking about putting them on your Hemi or Cummins?? 37's will affect it either way but I would regear if it were me!!

I drive a ton of customer trucks with both 35s and 37s. You will definitely feel a difference in power delivery, but with the Cummins you have enough torque that it's not a deal breaker. 99% of the trucks I drove are unburdened, so I have no idea if you'll feel much difference while towing.

Personally, I'd go to 37s and see how I like it, then regear if I'm not happy.

This was my question as well. I'm guessing the 1500 since he said 3.92 gears?

1500 will feelma major power loss towing heavy with the 37s and trailer stability issues also, especially with a travel trailer. You'd need one heck of a deep drop shank with 37s I'd imagine. Your Cummins wouldn't have an issue I don't think.

Looks cool, but stinks for doing real work with. But that's just me.

Very nice looking truck by the way!

If you are talking about the cummins, you have 3.42 gears (unless you swapped them out).

Given the weight you are towing I would say stay away from the 37's. Your transmission is a ticking time bomb with those tires and that kind of weight. Yes you will also take a hit in mpg and performance as well. The engine will pull it but that is a lot of additional strain on the drivetrain.

I misspoke, it appears I have the 3.42 gears in my 2500, not the 3.92s.

With a Cummins you can do 37s and it won’t be “horrible”. My buddy has and he finally did regear and loves it. I’m a 2500 5.7 3:73 gears. Went 35 ok 37 ok’ish and 39 need gears for sure lol.

The 4.88s on my 1500 feel so gooooooooood lol .... I can only imagine a 2500 on 37s or 40 with 4.88s ... I might end up with a 2500 pretty soon though ... but if I were you I would go 37s or 40s and regear the sonbish

I’m running 35’s and regeared to 4.10’s with my Cummins and love them. 3.42’s are not going to like 37’s or is your Transmission!!

My buddy is running bigger tires and lift on his 2017, he said if he could go back, he would have never done it.

I have heard this comment many times in the past, but it's really personal preference. I have lifted trucks/installed lift kits and done all that and felt the same way afterwards. At least with pickup trucks. I've also lifted Jeeps and love em sitting up there high, wide and handsome! :)

Trucks with big tires and lifts look cool as heck, I love them, but for a truck your going to work hard, I personally feel it's best to stay with stock suspension and stock tire sizes (on HD trucks, 1500s benefit from upgrades when towing heavy)

The factory rake is there for a reason. Again just my .02. I do appreciate a lifted truck, I just wouldn't want to own one.

I definitely don't fit into that category. I love my truck lifted and with 35's, I think it would look better with 37's but don't want to stress the drive train too much. It handled the 35's like there wasn't a change and I like the way the truck handles with the Thuren Overland suspension and bags in the rear.
