Hey yall. I have a 2000 ram 1500 5.9l. I have a issue that's stumping me. The truck runs amazingly.. but SOMETIMES at low ram at idol.. it kinda starts to bog down and stall out unless I stop it by giving it gas.. if I put it in neutral while it's doing it; it comes back to higher rpm for a short time and does it again.. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor.. TPS and Idle air control valve, cleaned the throttle body (only what i can get to without taking it all the way off). THEN I found a vaccum leak.. it's some sort of port (nipple shaped) device that sucks air. It's located right under my Transmission dip stick but have no idea where it connects to.. I taped it up and the truck is still having the issue. Thanks for reading. If you have any questions I will answer them fully.

Hey got your pm.

These pics show the vacuum line you're talking about. $10 says you don't have 4x4 right now because that line goes to the vacuum switch on top of the tcase.

As far the parts you replaced:
What plugs?
Dealer sensors? If not what brand?
Did you reset the pcm?

You can also try unplugging the front 02 and see if it runs better.

Btw, your username is my nickname at work :roflsquared:

Pulling an engine code for torque converter P1740- No DTR... this is a JASPER Trans that was installed 20,000 miles ago.. they said it could be covered under warranty.. does this sound like it could be the problem?

I dont think the torque converter has much to do with idling. I could be wrong but try replacing your o2 sensors. I replaced both of mine the day after mine died and stalled out because it was idling to low. After I replaced them it idles at 600 rpm every time.

Hell yeah. That was my next step.. I think I'm still going to have jasper do the torque converter as well since my warranty runs out next month anyways lol

One is like 40 bucks or so and one is 60 bucks or so depending on the brand. And yes 1 before and 1 after the cat. And both terminals/connectors are up on top of the tranny. Kind of a ***** to get to but not to bad.

And soak the sensors in WD or PB before hand. Makes the process I whole lot less of a headache!

This truck should have an almost identical O2 setup to the 5.2L if memory serves. To replace the front O2 sensor you will need a breaker bar with a deep socket swivel that fits right over the sensor, same for the rear. If you put just an O2 sensor socket on there 80% chance the tranny is sitting in just the right place to wreck your wrench placement to where you wont be able to crack the sensor loose.

Since your replacing the old ones, just cut the pigtails, and use an O2 socket on the new ones. I broke both a snap-on and a buddies craftsman O2 socket trying to get my downstream sensor out. Put a swivel socket on there, had it out in less than a minute.

PBblaster is a must, without it you will want to light the truck on fire.

You can rent o2 sensor pullers from autozone too.

NTK is the brand you should buy. That's generally considered the best brand. Just don't buy bosch they have too wide a sensor range for readings and these trucks hate them
