Well I never made a thread for this so I thought it was time. I am on my second ipad as my dash head unit and it only gets better. I still have to do a little more body work on the bezel to get it right but since I work out of the truck down time is hard to come by. Anyways take a look at the pics. Next time I take the bezel out I will get some rear shots.

Still debating if I should keep the center silver when I finish or go black. Nothing compares to the clarity and options of using an Ipad for me. This most current ipad is a cellular one which was what I had planned eventually so gps is built in and works perfect as well as I can use it without needing a phone for any data music streaming stuff. Or anything really. I am going to get a backup wifi camera to connect to it as well.

Looks great! I am interested to see you have it sitting behind the bezel.

Climate controls are below it... he has a 2010, much different than the 13+. I am curious how he tied into the stereo.

I've seen where people install a single DIN deck behind the iPad and link it to that

I want to do this in my 2015

I assume it is this. Looks like the iPad slides out from the top... and then probably a smaller chassis media receiver behind it.

How much data do you use each month running an iPad and using the GPS and apps?

Just curious. Looks great...nice clean install!

The Ipad is connected basically just to the 3.5 mm jack in the front of the oem stereo which is still in there behind the ipad. Had to cut some plastic braces and stuff that the stereo normally mounts to and push it back about an inch and a half. Not for the faint of heart. I had to custom the whole surround around the stereo and move the hvac controls down. I plastic welded most everything. The bezel around the ipad is actually tapered in slightly so the home button and cameras on the ipad are covered. Just enough of the ipad is still exposed to do all the swipe up and down stuff which works great.
I was going to use a seperate bluetooth controller but this was so easy and there is no distortion direct connected. I always get some distortion over bluetooth and seemed silly to spend 250 bucks on random specialized equipment for getting rid of that when the jack always works. If i had a mount to remove it probably would have to. But this is never leaving the truck.
I have 15gb data plan right now but on ipad alone it does probably 4-5gb
Its also synced with my phone to do all my texts if I want. Not driving of course unless I’m using siri.

Here’s a pic of my dash command app that reads all the info from my obd2 wifi plugin. Gives me a ton of information and you can customize the dashboard to whatever gauges you want. You get the idea. It will also read codes as well. Just need some mods to make those hp and torque numbers get bigger. 514cc9d41f2372db5569eafb58331316.jpg
And if nobody has noticed I did move my 4 wheel drive controller to the right instead of the left. Pretty easy to do just have to grind off a couple tabs and the fit either side the same.

Very nice indeed, but how do you get by without use of the home button?

Since im a perfectionist when it comes to doing these things (sorry was in the custom audio business for many years) i see the small scratches and runs.. otherwise looks great.

just an fyi many people that do these conversions are running the sony radios that can solely use an app to control the radio.

I think I'd rather build a carputer for this than an iPad. But then I'm not an apple guy. Still, nice looking install.

Well - this will be a thing of the past with the new Ram interior reveal.
