I have been putting off road light on my truck. Got the lower panel off under steering wheel , and found a little black box connected to my obd port with a harness. Anyone else have this thing and know whet it is? I know it has a sim card and a plug in on it. Seems to have a battery in it as well. I have it unpluged and lights are still on. I know it is not factory cause the harness has a tag with a date of Aug 30 2022.

Looks to me like an aftermarket vehicle data/tracking device. You bought your truck used I assume?

If it’s a buy here pay here place, they may have put that on there. If it’s a dealer, then possibly it was a trade and they didn’t notice the device. Either way, personally, I’d take that thing off. I value my privacy.

When I got my RAM from a huge dealer I was told they install them for inventory purposes. Some financial institutions also require it upon financing.
To add, I removed it immediately and no one ever reached out to me about it.

Tracker is a good guess, but wrong in this case. Was your truck a rental or fleet vehicle before? The FCC number returns to a "Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (LTE OBD II Dongle)" .

Basically a way to run diagnostics on the truck with a laptop or tablet, and without having to physically plug it in. Handy for a fleet where the mechanics don't have to physically gain access to the port each time they scan it and can data log easier.

As far as I know, it was not a fleet or rental truck.

Just looked at the carfax and noticed a Dodge dealer noted installing an antitheft/ alarm remote. Wonder if it was part of that.
I also noticed a couple of wires or plugs that are just dangling under there and not plugged in to anything. Lol. Wish I could find out what they were there to do.

This is a good guess too, but not quite the way it works when it’s unplugged.
We have similar devices on all of our work trucks. They are gps trackers so the company can monitor location, speed, mileage, generic diagnostics (the only thing they can tell me that they see is if the check engine light is illuminated, and the generic code for the CEL if applicable), etc.
If I unplug it from the OBD port, the only thing the device is capable of on battery backup is showing its location, and its gps speed if it’s moving. It’s not possible for the device to check on diagnostics or see mileage without being physically plugged into the diagnostic port.

The main thing about this device for @DaleK is, in order for it to function, somebody somewhere has to pay for the data subscription service (varies depending on how many features they want to monitor). If he isn’t paying a subscription on it, and he didn’t agree to someone else paying the subscription on it when he signed the truck purchase documents, then simply remove everything.
All that other harness stuff is just the OBD splitter, and if it’s combined with an aftermarket alarm/remote start, then most likely a tee harness at the push start button and headlight switch.

Truck came from factory with remote start, and all that good stuff. Seems like it said something about alarm on the build sheet as well. Will have to check it out again. I do believe it will be staying out of the truck.

Crazy idea but I'd pop that sim in my phone and see if it's active. Would be sweet to have free service lol. But this would only work on an unlocked phone.

I have seen rental companies add stuff like this.....could also be an off brand Geo tracker.

In most states it's illegal for a dealership to install (or leave) a tracker without you written notice and approval. I had the same issue with my Rebel when I purchased it. The dealership claimed to have not knowledge of it. If you didn't sign anything, I say smash it with a hammer or give it back to the dealer. You can also contact the vendor usually and get the details on the last owner of the device (not the vehicle).
