Hey guys, looking for a little advice as I plan to trade up if I can get the right deal. When I got my '12, I skipped on quite a few options I really wish I had. I got a stellar deal on my '12, I paid about $32,500 with a $41,500 MSRP. I'm trying to repeat that success here. I'm currently leased and probably leasing again, hoping the year end clear out will help the dealer want to play ball with me.

I've located a Sport that is perfect for me, and near by. The MSRP is $49k and their internet price is $42,800. I would like to get this truck to the mid 30's, maybe $36k for it. Am I crazy think I can work them down this far?

For what its worth, I found this truck nearly identical advertised at $35,300. Cars for Sale: 2014 RAM 1500 4x4 Crew Cab Sport in Caldwell, ID 83605: Truck Details - 383815999 - AutoTrader.com

Bonus question: Should I get Max Steel, Granite, or True Blue?

I'll anwser the bonus question first and I'll say granite. Secondly I think about the best you'll do is 37 12 off is quite a bit. The biggest problem will be your truck. You will take a hit on it unless your lease is up other wise you'll have to pay to get out of it. If they just start rolling numbers around you'll end up getting screwed 1 way or another they are very good at that. My advice would to be settle out of your truck first then get the new one you should get a better deal that way.

Getting out of my lease I'm expecting a $1000 fee (buy option fee) which I was aware of at the time I signed (I got the dealer to knock more off the price because of it). I may be able to mitigate that fee if I sign with Ally again, but I don't know if they use that bank. I *should* have some decent equity built into my lease if I can get a good trade-in from them.

I did the lease dance with them the first go around, which I agree can be easy to get lost in. My solution to that was to sit with my laptop and an excel spreadsheet to crunch numbers with as they proposed them. I'm sure they loved it :)

I went from a 12 to a 14 and made almost $2k more than I paid for my Ram in the trade. Never hurts to try, but never hurts to go in with a check already made out like I did (saves ya all the more money).

On the other side, my friend just traded in his lease for a purchase after only a year and they wrote off any remainder of the lease and lowered the price just like he wanted.

Fyi that truck will be ~38 from Dennis Dillon unless you qualify for a bunch of random rebates, like faa, realtor and I can't remember the other ones I didn't qualify for. They don't negotiate there either and offer terrible trade in prices. It is where I bought my truck, and they do have rock bottom prices, but they will let you walk right out if you negotiate. They think their **** doesn't stink and it pretty much doesn't. Not totally happy with them but got a good price on the truck.

All Chrysler/Dodge stores have Ally as an option. How long is your current lease? And you are sure it's with Ally or is it Chrysler Capital (Santander)?

It's Ally. Fortunately I found out they don't charge $2500 fee if I re-lease, and they don't do that big of a fee anymore so I will effectively dodge it all around.

I've been working with the dealer and the good news is they are doing $9500 in incentives, which if I take that off the invoice value it should be do-able at $36k and leave a small profit for them. The only downside is the interest is now 7.65%, up from my current 1.99%. They have lower interest, but I'd have to give up $5500 of the incentives for it.

Now to figure out what the value on my current truck is. Looking to try and get almost $29k out of them.

Once you get the new truck, refi for a lower rate thru a credit union.

Ended up going though with it on the Maximum Steel one. Was able to work out a pretty good deal - in my area they're doing $9500 in rebates right now - and I got 29,750 out of my trade in (orig. msrp 41k), little under 3k what I paid for it new. I can't complain about only having $1500/yr in depreciation on it!

I'm blown away at how many little things they've added to the Sport in just 2 years. I thought my '12 was nice, but this thing seems like its a whole new class of luxury compared to my old one. Probably the single best interior upgrade they made is the 8.4AN touch screen. The one in my '12 was a pile of junk, but this thing works nice. The 8spd transmission is pretty nice too.

Didn't grab much for pics yet, but here are a couple

I might be doing the same thing this week, but only after one year. Dealer said he's sure he can get me out of my truck for what I owe and pile up current incentives to make the jump to a '15 make sense. I'm going to show them my truck for appraisal and discuss it this week. I didn't lease my truck, I bought it.

Nice guys...I think I'm going to wait a couple of years until maybe the next design...just wish I had a crew cab instead of a quad, but other than that, im happy.

Crazy thing with my trade in, they bought the truck without looking at it. The dealer was about an hour away so I was dealing with them over phone/email. They cut me an offer over the phone and I thought for sure they would knock a little off when I got there for this or that. They never asked for my keys until I was ready to leave in the new one.

I looked at the new inventory on my dealer's web site today, and don't really see anything in stock that would make me trade. I'm gonna go see what my truck is worth, but not likely I'm gonna trade unless they have some trucks that aren't on their page.

I'd like to get a two tone paint job with fender flares and steel bumpers in crew cab instead of the express plastic and painted bumpers along with some other interior upgrades. I'd also like to not get the AWD xfer case.

We'll see.
