How does everyone carry their Mountain bike in the bed of their truck?

I got myself a tailgate pad, otherwise I've stood the bike up and strapped it down using ratchet straps. Two on the handlebars and two on the saddle rails - overkill but it keeps it nice and stable for those rough forestry roads.

I had a Kuat NV before the truck, so I just use the hitch for it. Some guys I ride with though have fork mounts on the front of the bed so they just remove the wheel and hook it in.

I used to strap it upright then ended up getting a tail gate pad and it seems much easier. If I could find a stand for the bed that would keep it upright and I wouldn't have to bother with ratchet straps I'd probably prefer that over the tail gate pad.

Check into what I posted above you. That bike rack I bought will fit my road bike and my Specialized EPIC 29'er. I just strap the seat post down with bungee cord and they stay upright.

I was curious about this too. I'm glad someone posted. I was even thinking about using my bedrails.

2x6 with fork mount that is held in place by quick links that attach to the truck tie down points.

See, the pain in butt is when you have maxles instead of QR axles on your bike. That's why I went with a tailgate pad...

Something like that is what id be looking for, how do you have the stand itself secured in the bed?

I have a Pace Edwards bed cover with their Explorer rails, which allows use of a Thule system so I have a Bike Rack/Kayak Racks/Etc. and still have locked/covered storage in the bed. Its a pretty cool setup for me.

If you have a through axle, and disc brakes, then you know how annoying it is to remove the front tire, and get it back on perfectly.

I went through many options.. From just laying it in the back, yakima hold up carrier, tailgate pad, etc...

I ended up just laying it in the back and sold all that bs... Its just fine for a single bike.. For two or more, the tailgate pad is the best way to go.. Quick on and off..

I also sold my bike because off roading in the truck is more fun :)

Not top of the line, but sometimes I miss it. Good luck !

On a side note.. I still have some very gently used, clipless, pearl izumi shoes for sale.. Size 49. Stupid low price :)

Look into the Yakima blockhead. They were like $30 a few years ago and I bolted them to my tool box.
