If you are going by the evic you may get a surprise. My first trip out the evic read 18.5 mpg but actual mileage was 16.96 This was at 65 mph for 280 miles.New truck. Left home with 187 miles on it. Not towing. Drove 155 miles all highway, got 16.5. On way back, got 15.4. Around town getting 11-12. Still only have 700 miles on it.
Agreed. Seems like the higher the average speed, the wider the gap is between the EVIC and hand calculated mileage. If you are going by the evic you may get a surprise. My first trip out the evic read 18.5 mpg but actual mileage was 16.96 This was at 65 mph for 280 miles.
There is a couple things going on here. One being, one your first update it was winter & most stations run a winter blend during this time which lowers mine 2+ mpg. Your second update is back in the summer blend plus you have likely broken in your engine which will yield better mpg. Longest it ever took one of my vehicles to break in was 5,000 miles. I rarely hand calculate my mpg because my EVIC has never been off more than 1 mpg so I just keep that in the back of my mind when I read it. Enjoy your new truck! I have absolutely loved mine.4K mile update. I have been betting consistentry 9.2-9.8mpg. At 4K miles it was like a timer went off and now I‘m getting 11.5-12mpg. I’m thinking the newness is wearing off and I’m driving better, is my guess. Or does ram make some changes every few thousand miles? Or is it everything getting worn in a little better. We may never know.
