Hi folks.

My name is Steve. I am currently shopping for my first RAM. I have my eyes on the 2500HD level, Laramie trim level, i6 Diesel. Long or standard bed. Will be carrying a Northstar pop up truck camper and pulling a ski boat. A lighter comp style ski boat, not a big wake boat. So thinking I want 2500 and up. Will be pulling over an 8700 foot pass.

I have my eyes on the 2010-2011 era as that fits my budget best it seems. There is a pretty nice one here in town for mid-30's, with 61 k on it.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I know mine is gas but just bought a 17 ram 1500 Big horn for 30k brand new. My dad got a 17 ram 1500 eco diesel Laramie for 37k. Dealers are really trying to get rid of older 17 models. Might be worth taking a look at if your budget would allow it

My concern would be both carrying a camper, and towing a boat with a 1500. But might warrant some consideration, considering the cost of used diesel 2500/3500 models.

You could get heavy duty helper airbags for the rear too which would help with some of the weight. I would think they would be offering deals on left over 2500's too if you wanted to look

The payload on the half tons suck, so you wont be able to do your truck camper and boat. Id go 2500+ you intend on getting a truck bed camper. A half ton is fine for pulling a boat, but probably not hauling the camper, and pulling the boat.

That was kinda what I was thinking. The camper I got from my neighbor he used to use in his older chevy 1500, which was ok, but a bit soggy in the rear on corners, etc. Adding a boat, even with airbags, and I am not thinking that would be the best, especially pulling over an 8,700 foot pass.
