Relocating to Denver from central FL and noticed they have lower octane available at the pump. Owners manual says to use 89 octane, but would that be applicable at 5k-6k above sea level? The way I figure, 87 should be ok as its mid grade out here. Any thoughts?

Would 85 (not E85) work, or should that be avoided?

I run 85 up here and it’s fine. You’re about 2000 giv eor take lower so I don’t think 87 would hurt. Your truck will compensate anyway.

I figure that they put 89 in the manual for a reason so that is all I have ever run. There are plenty of guys that run 87 and don't seem to have any problem though. We go to Colo a couple time a year and I still use the 89. I guess it's a matter of personal choice.

Merely because of the words best power performance and mileage that it states in the manual is why I run pretty much only the 89.

Yep like 14RamMan said, it's 85, 87, and 91 at most stations. I know of a rogue Sinclair station that sells Sunoco 100 at the pump, but it's the exception. If your tune is stock, 87 will be fine. I run an aggressive tune on mine, so I run 91. But I rarely beat on it enough to justify it.

Welcome to the Rockies!

Hey bud,

Same ole same ole. Work's been a PITA. Boss decided to move the office, so I've been dealing with getting everything functional again. Told him everything worked before the move. ;) Still haven't got my Jeep back yet. They were ready to start her up a couple weeks ago. Started cranking it to prime everything, and noticed the blower moving ever so slightly. Put an indicator on the crank and the snout was bent. So now I'm waiting on a new crank from BES. Hopefully will be running soon...

Hope all is well with you!
