At 60k I had the C1404 that turned into a nightmare. 2 months & countless dealership visits & about 3k worth of parts & labor later it was a grounded out wire. Was at my whits end and wanted to sell but unfortunately I didn't. So now at 70k I have another round of gremlins I'm very leery about returning to the dealer.
About 3 months ago I was driving in a severe rain storm and the truck just died. Check engine light & service electronic brake message. Truck would not stay running , hesitating and skipping bad. Let it sit overnight and went back and all was well and ran fine. Chalked it up to swamping it with water. It did it to me again the next time out in the rain, same exact thing. Limped it home running rough then the next day or was fine. A few weeks ago I dug around looking for a possible cause. Sprayed coils one at a time with water , all sensors & connections to no avail. I did notice the air tube on the throttle body side was not tightened for the last time at the dealership. Over time it stretched a bit so I was thinking I found the problem. Must be sucking in water. Tightened that and absolutely doused the bay with a hose. No issues. A few weeks pass and we had snow & rain overnight. Took out today and went about 8 miles and it crapped out and threw the codes again. Seems to only do this in wet weather but I have noticed in the past month or so Ive gone from 13mpg to 10mpg. So it "feels" to be running right on dry days but obviously something is a bit off. Just don't want to deal with the dealership changing crank sensor , pcm boards and or abs monitors. Ive read in some cases the c121c is a byproduct of the P0344. I'm mechanical but not a rocket scientist. Would like to dig around and see if it's a wiring issue prior to letting the dealer throw darts at it again. Just not sure if I should looking at the ABS side of things or the engine side.
