Hey,

I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport in white and I noticed that the paint above the passenger wheel well has 2 bubble (guessing rust underneath) that have not cracked yet. Sure they will soon.

Does anyone have any idea / options what I should do? I have attached a photo
May be difficult to see in the photo but they are about the size of a the nail on your pinky finger.

Check into a body rust warranty....most modern vehicles have a warranty for 5 or more years on body rust/perforations....

You are out of luck. I believe the rust warranty is for "rust through", meaning it must rust right through the panel leaving a hole. By the time that happens your warranty will be gone. The only real way to fix it is to replace the area or the whole panel or box.

I'd be on the way to a body shop. IMHO you need to get it fixed ASAP

I went by my local dealership and the manager seemed to think Chrysler Canada might cover it under the rust warranty since it appears not to be the result of a stone chip but originating from inside the panel through the paint.

They took photos and will he submitting them for warranty approval. If it is not approved it is approx. $800 to 900 to fix it or $1700 CAD to replace the panel.

Fingers crossed it is warrenty approved.

You should ask what they will do to "fix" it. If they just grind it down, use body filler and paint the problem will return in short order. If you live in a part of Canada that sees real winter it will return very fast.

^^^^ That is an excellent point. They need to figure out how and why the moisture got behind that panel and stayed long enough to start the rust. IMHO they need to replace the metal, not just bondo over it.

I did ask this and it would be to remove the section with the rust. Grind it out and then fix and repaint. So yea, it will come back again and a waste of $$.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am happy to announce that I received confirmation from my local Chrysler dealer service manager that Chrysler Canada had approved my warrenty request to replace the parts effected by the rust from m initial post. Will save me a ton of money. They will order the parts next week and she will be fixed. They will also include a full body detailed rust inspection to make sure it is not happening anywhere else.

Mud and or snow pack into that area (keeping wet for long times) and rust from behind through to where you see it.

Line-X will spray the fender wells to the bottom of the doors. This is the worst area for this kinda of thing. They will grind the rust away and rough up the paint where they intend to spray. After that you wont have issues. Just a thought.
