What is the difference between Performance Chip and a Programer? Some sites use the term interchangeably. Also I am looking to get something to give my 03 Ram 1500 4.7 some increased fuel millage if possible and some get up and go:naughty: I have been looking at the Edge EvoHT Performance Chip 36030. Is it worth it or not? I am not stuck on it. What would you recommended?

Chip are generally the $50 ads that you see that offer 60 HP and 10 more mpg. They are simply resistors that don't actually help and are a fake and a rip off.

A tuner will be somewhere of $300+ and will completely change how your truck drives. It changes parameters in your trucks PCM so that your truck drives better.

Go with a tuner, not a chip.

Chips worked in the 80's, now if you want to see some power changes, get a good tuner.

What would be a good tuner? And what is the difference between Edge and Superchips? Is one better then the other or are they both good?

Re: Gecko
Thanks for that bit of info:)

I use, and am very happy with, my SuperChips Cortex 3950, I run the Performance 91 octane tune, along with Premium 93 octane fuel.

I haven't tried any other tuner so I can't comment on the pros and cons of other tuners.

I use Diablo myself but that is because they are the only ones with custom tuning capabilities. You are a 4.7 though so I'm not too sure what the tuning options for you are.

Is Edge any good. I have seen some reviews and some people hate them and some people love them.

I just tuned mine with a superchips flashpak today and we tried both 87 and 91 octane tunes and WOW holy moly!!!! Huge difference! I took my buddy along for the experience. We rode around before the tune as well for comparison.

Well, if you don't like it, I would recommend the Superchips for a 3rd gen 4.7. We put one in my buddies truck and it was night and day difference! Also, nice transmission tuning upgrade.

I installed the Edge Evolution CS chip. And i really like it. I was kinda scared about what it would do - if it would do what they claim....And it does!!!:roflsquared: 5 MPG better. i have not done a long run yet but have been really impressed with it even on short runs, 15 minutes or so with a cold start. So my average was 14 mpg normally is now 18.5 to 20 mpg for the 15 min trip. :naughty: Very Impressed!!!

Uploaded the 91 tune yesterday in my 03 and I haven't noticed a real difference. Did I do something wrong or does it take awhile for computer to set it up?

Interesting....have you tried the economy tune? I put mine back to the original program after a couple of weeks after having economy on. And i am sooooo glad i got the tuner!!! It was so pathetic. Sluggish and bad fuel economy.... like 12-14 mpg:puke: One difference is you have a 5.7. Mine is a 4.7..... I dont know what yours will do but i can do 0 to 100 km (0 to 62mph) in 12.2 seconds on a gravel road with the performance tune.:roflsquared:

What exactly is that? I am kinda surprised you did not notice a change. I have done the 91 performance tune once and it was amazing the power and lower fuel economy. lol

Do some hand calculations and report back. The overhead is not very accurate and even less so once the ECM is tuned. You might find different results.

I am going to do that next tank of fuel. I do know that this tank of fuel is lasting longer then the previous ones have. Thanks

I just found a Hypertech power programmer Model #50013 on craigslist for $100. Can anybody tell me if it is worth this. I figure at the end of the day its at least a code reader. Has anybody used the Hypertech. Good, Bad?
