I'm getting to the point where I'm like "ya I don't have the knowledge or time for this, I'll pay someone else and make it their problem" and then I get a quote like that and I'm like never mind I'll make time for it.

yes i did it myself, but i did not replace the bearings, just opened up the diff case & took apart the gears, & put it back together.
maybe i'll do it after i finish the engine rebuild.

How much did it cost u?

also replaced the outer axle bearings & seals.
As long as the diff was quiet and no vibration etc I would have reinstalled the bearings just as you did.

If you’re going to replace bearings, then you’ll have to deal with adjusting the rear gear mesh, which can be an expensive rabbit hole. It’s often harder to set up worn gears, because if you don’t exactly match the old wear pattern it will be noisy.

So a lot of shops would not touch it without replacing every bearing, seal, and a new set of gears. $$$$

But they don’t want to have a do over on their dime.

You did good. :waytogo:
